The law in Oregon was changed as of January 1 this year with stiffer fines, loss of license on repeat offenses, etc. I was talking to a Federal cop (VA) where I work and he said politicians saw studies that people were ignoring 100+ MPH tickets and many repeat offenders. Also taken into consideration was the fatality rates above 100mph.

Stiff fines but tends to be on major highways like I-5. Another route I guarantee a roaming LEO with radar on in his bubble gum machine is on 138 from Southerlin to Reedsport. Don't ask me how I know, but I avoided a performance award.... ;)

Thank politicians for the silver lining -- cutbacks over years have decimated the number of State troopers. Only 1 was patrolling the entire southern Oregon part of the coast route in Oregon last year. It made news in the papers. Don't know if it is true anymore.

The coastal route, i.e. Hwy 101, has so many small towns along it for most of the coast that you aren't going to get too carried away with speed anyway. Not to mention the twists and turns. Farther South it does open up, town wise, but no scenic hwy is a good place to make time. Too many tourons and just people u-turning on the hwy, stopping for pictures, wildlife, etc. One OSP might be a little thin, but there is local enforcement in many of the towns too, and that's really where it's needed most.

True enough, but I pick my times (off seasons when the weather is still good but the tourists are mostly gone) and pick my favorite places -- I like the twisties, but I don't look at the scenery much when I ride for sporty fun. I slow way down when approaching towns though. Maybe I've just been lucky or don't drive as fast as I think :D I DO have a hell of a time though on this bike.

Ever wonder if they are regenerating all that cash they gave back to some folks in the TAX CUTS?

I ride around America and it used to be pretty cool but anymore there are politzie all over the place. They are out there hiding in the cracks and crevices of the motoring highways and byways all over this friggin' country?

At the risk of rolling on your throttles :rolleyes: , I'll tell you that it is still true. There are only about 8 Troopers that work patrol between Coos Bay and California. You can do the math on how many might be out and about 24/7. Your chances are pretty good.

I find it laughable that someone thinks OSP is generating revenue for themselves. Anyone who says that doesn't know jack about the poor financial state of affairs Oregon is in (my salary has been frozen 2 out of the last 3 years) and how decimated OSP has been. We see about one half of one half of every one cent on the total fine of a citation. True story. A ticket written by a State Trooper is more likely funding stupid things like the Oregon Trail Card to feed the lazy who can't feed themselves. If you work it out, I think the whole agency got about $20 off the thousands of tickets written last year. I WISH we saw some money off of tickets written. We could actually buy some things to make the job safer.

I feel for you FJR pig, sometimes you have a thankless job but I'm glad someone is out there. I just wish the idiots, like the ones driving 60 in the fast lane on the freeway got pulled over once in awhile. See you in Reno.
