Never was one much for old cars. A lot like music, I became "automotive-aware" in the mid/late '60s, so anything prior is pretty much meaningless to me.

However, saying that, my greatest automotive loves were the most unreliable pieces of crap ever to sport 4 wheels and a folding roof.

But god, are they beautiful:

Lord, I can hear it rusting in the picture!

Can someone guess what that is without reading the pix properties or following the link in the image?

Rust and lack of reliability, plus beauty. Gotta be Italian, Fiat maybe? I owned a couple, so yes, I'm a sick ****. :D

After I cheated & looked at the image name I was reminded of my fire engine red 124 Sport Spyder, a fun piece of machinery that ran well mechanically & rusted apart on me body wise. Got to the point where I was afraid of it & decided to sell it...

You'll never guess what car I got next ...

A Chevy Nova hatchback, so plain it didn't even have a cigarette lighter !

OR

Maintenence nightmare to runs forever to maintenence nightmare...

If I remember right that is a Fiat. Dino, body by Pininfarina... aka, "The Poor Man's Ferrari." Circa 1967 - '72 or 3?

Three quarters correct...Italian and a Fiat pedigree, but no cigar.

Jeezus what a crouton for punishment you were...

A Fiat 124 Spyder (I had a '69) to a TR6.

What's amazing is you didn't commit automotive-induced suicide after that experience. The only thing that could have been worse would to have owned a Cosworth Vega in that chain. :)

But -100 points for cheating.

The reason you were reminded was that from the front wheel well to the rear wheel well is it WAS essentially a 124 Spyder. However the nose, tail and motor were pure Ferraristi.

Why am I not surprised you're the first 100% correct contestant? I've got a feeling you had some sort of Italian nightmare in your past. :)

Exactly right..."The Poor Man's Ferrari". Basically a Fiat Spyder with a Dino V-6 shoehorned into the nose. God what a beauty. God what a high maintenance POS.

After watching (first) my 124 Spyder and (then) my 2400 Dino collapse into separate piles of iron oxide, I absolutely swore that at no time, at whatever cost, would I ever own an Italian vehicle EVER again.

Jeez they both were fun to drive, looked like a million bucks, and had the reliability of a pet cobra.

And like boogahboogah, but even worse and more self-flagellatory, I went from a 124 Spyder to a 2400 Dino to an MGB-GT to a Triumph Stag to a Mazda RX3.

I barely made it out of the seventies with my sanity intact. :dribble:

And guess what I was driving (actually riding) while all that automotive insanity was broken down and/or awaiting parts? First a Kaw 500 Triple, then to further solidify my death-by-vehicle-wish, a Kaw 750 Triple. Wow, could those bikes go fast........straight. :)
