Hey Everyone,

I am trying to install an autocom active plus with a handheld cb radio (not gmrs radio) so I can speak with my father on his goldwing. I can receive transmissions just fine, but when I try to transmit, I receive some serious feedback. Any ideas on what this may be?

Regards,

Davy

sounds like the microphone is not wired correct. from the Autocom. sounds like you need a different cable from it to your cb

While it is possible that you've managed to wire the unit wrong, it is just as likely that what you are suffering is RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) that is getting into the microphone circuit.

CB radios are AM (amplitude modulated) or SSB (Single SideBand) - if the wiring is somehow picking up the signal, it will be fed right back into the mic jack - sounding like feedback.

Sometimes it takes a small value ceramic capacitor connected across the microphone input (presumably of the radioo) to remove the radio signal, sometimes a choke - possibly an external antenna is required.

Have you contacted Autocom to validate your interface?

Thanks for the replies. I took it to Lone Star BMW today and the autocom person there took a look at it. We tested it multiple times with different leads and a new autocom setup and the same problem occurred. I am awaiting tech support from autocom to call her back, but I am thinking I may need the capacitor you speak of bramfrank. Can I pick that up at a radio shack?

Hey Everyone...just an FYI...

I have fixed the problem with feedback on the CB and autocom setup. Turns out I just had to install a ferrite data-line filter on the cb antenna. Costs 5.29 at Radio shack...part 273-105.

Davy
