Avon front tire profile question:

This is my first set of Azoro ST.

Is it still triangular once mounted?

My Avon's finally came in -not mounted yet, but salesman showed them to me and the front tires profile is way triangular. Is that normal? Or did I get a bad tire? Does the VBD allow it to round-out once the there is air in there or what? What do I do?

I had Azaro I and Azaro II and they were not like that.

Need help before I get them mounted.

Not to worry, once mounted and inflated they have a lovely round profile. that causes them to corner (turn in) like crazy. You're gonna love these tires.

You will love 'em. Just passed 13,500 miles on the Avons on my '04 FJR, still haven't fully hit the wear bars. Expect they will go to 14,000 miles. New Avons in the garage ready to be mounted shortly. Running 42/42 psi, virtually zero cupping on front tire (OEM Bridgestone was badly cupped at 6000 miles). The Avons still hold well, even in aggressive twisty mountain road riding where I live. My son and I are running Avons on our GSXR's also, as are most of our sportbike riding buddies, great tires.

Thanks, but can anyone confirm that looking at the UN-mounted front tire, theirs was triangular (or pointy) in profile? As I do not recall my Azaro I and IIs being this way -in fact, I have never seen a tire's profile quite this triangular.

I am replacing the front wheel bearings while off -did not notice any slop but they (I think) howled at a specific speed (just before 80km/h or 50mph) and also when applying steering input pressure.

I will also tell the shop to check/grease the rear wheel bearings and drive splines while rear wheel is off.

Am I missing anything (other than drive shaft splines which I have decided to postpone to do myself) that is good to do when wheels are off?

i.e., is the Swingarm pivot bearing lube critical and/or a big job? Grease nipple?

2004 FJR has 18,000kms (11,000miles) on it.

Thanks

My front tire was triangular while unmounted. Rounded out fine after mounting. No nipples in the swingarm area you have to dissasemble this spot, not an overly difficult job just time consuming.

I suggest you do NOT install this avon tire on your bike. Ship it immediately to me instead! :D

Thanks Bustanut -How time consuming? You would think they would put a grease nipple on there to make life easier.

Skyway -like my dad told me when I asked him for stuff, "You want a tire? Get your own tire".

Thanks Bustanut -How time consuming?
Head over to FJR Tech site and look in the maintance section that'l give you pics etc.

It only took about an hour to do the job but I was changing the rear tire at the time so, two jobs plus the run for grease made me lose track of the real time.

I think a grease zerk might be a good idea, anybody done this?
