Here I am, arriving for my shift with a big grin on my face. While others have 'suffered' their commute. I've been out for a ride on my bike before work. No matter what this day throws at me, I get to go for a ride on my bike after it's done. Why doesn't everyone ride an FJR? Perhaps we know something that they don't.
Sister Penquini of the Sisters of Perpetual Motorcycle Indulgence you have said it all, and said it well! Amen and amen!

Thanks for sharing your insights into Motorcycle Bliss.
It's satisfyingly lonely at the top!

Jill,

Nice article. I too am an MSF Instructor (in Michigan) and commute to work as much as possible. Most often I take the FJR though I do rotate through (RC51, CBR929, Ninja250, KLR 250, my CBR900RR is in Colorado). Point is most days the FJR is simply irresistable. Now I'm 6:2 with a bit over a 34" inseem. A buddy of mine has the Yamaha optional seat and that lowered me a bit more than an inch when I installed it on my 04FJR. You might want to look into either have your stock seat gel foamed (by taking out the stock padding) or getting an alternate seat from Yamaha or one of the other saddle makers.

Once again you've esaped the cage! Stay free. :yahoo:

Numpty and SMIDSY. I learned two new words from reading this forum. Further research shows that there are several websites devoted to SMIDSY.

To think, here I was just wandering around the forum, and it became an educational experience.

I've been avoiding this thread...see...because I figured it might be inciteful and insightful...see...and I was right...see. There's Jill, writing in her usual inimitable style fanning the flames of enjoying motorcycling...see...and mine is in the shop during this lovely NorCal Spring weather. Dang, drat, heck and pshaw!

Great write-up, Jill. I'm looking forward to the commute once mine is back "tick free".

Hey Mike. You could see if the xs1100 would run. I know it has a bad gear box but maybe it has a couple comutes left in it. Its bad when a guy has three bikes and has to drive his truck to work in California. :yahoo:

I have the KLR about 90% done, Mr. Smartypants! I'll finish changing the handlebars this weekend. :p

And "running" isn't the problem. Its all that fork oil that has soaked the front brakes.....

Besides, this thread is about being back on the FJR!

Just about to get back on mine. Six weeks ago I started with a through cleaning from last years Alaska trip. Next I removed and lubed the final drive. Then since the bike was opened up I ordered a manometer from motion pro and synced the throttle bodies (I found those little vacuum caps on the throttle bodies can be slippery).

So I have spent the winter tinkering with my FJR and the Wife's VLX and we are anxious to get going again. Maybe tomorrow - it should get up to 50.

Hey, I know someone who used to live in Friday Harbor and who rides an FJRay.

(I found those little vacuum caps on the throttle bodies can be slippery)
Why...yes they can. At WFO in Reno there was a marathon TBS going on and 3 different people dropped a cap into the bowels of the machine. Two of us spent much time on our hands and knees with flashlights and mirrors to find them and extricate them. 'Twern't fun, neither! Thank goodness the litle clips will hold to a extendable magnet.....

I ran the FJR around the Island today - clockwise - and it was nice. The roads still have a lot of sand and debris on them so it wasn't real fast. Still there is no such thing as a bad ride, some are better than others.

I may have met FJRay, I certainly know several of his friends here. Lots of stories to be told.

The FJR fired up first time and just purred at me, beckoning me to come play. That has to be one of the most seductive sounds ever.

That made me smile from recognition, you're a good writer. :clapping:

Between having mine in for the tick repair and just a few days of winter, you had me itchin' Jill. The service guy called Friday to ask if I wanted to pick up the Feejer and then said something like: "Sir, you'll be all ready when riding season starts."

Silly service guy. Riding season started on the way home! :yahoo:

And for MM2, I had forgotten totally how quiet the bike is without the ticking noise. It's great.
