Last night on my way home from work (10:15ish pm) I was going around 45-50 mph when I spotted Bambi darting out of the woods about 10 yards in front of me. Had to lock up the binders, the ABS works great. I was able to lock the brakes up and still dive to the left to avoid it. Missed him by 5 or so feet. Rode another's 1.5 miles and rudolf decided to put my testicular fortitude to the test, haha missed me! Tried the anti lock brakes when I first bought the FJR, thought they were nice, now I love them, it's my first bike with them and won't ever own another without them.

I agree... the ABS works good. I had to hit them a little harder than usual one day. Plus the UBS with the 6 piston/8 piston operation on the front helps. The stopping power is fantastic.

Ya Silver Spirit we have all of santas and all of the movie deer in Queensbury, it's a very large, fairly rural area. They start getting antsy when it gets close to Christmas, or maybe it's because the hunters start chasing them around the woods, Im not sure which.

It's the rut season. Damn things are stoopit crazy this time of year. There are generally two new dead per day on my 12 mile work commute. Last year at this time I had a Ford P/U bumper and a dead deer in my yard, mailbox I found a day later. Seems the truck hit the deer and the deer took out the mailbox. Again. 3rd time it's happened in 8 yrs, it's why most of the important stuff goes to a PO box.

Down here in South Florida I don't see that many deer close to the road. Now wild hog that is a different story. I see them all the time and see dead ones on the side of the road.

Only had one close call with a deer since I have been riding. A big doe jumped in front of me and lost her footing on the asphalt when she tried to bolt away. I was on the cruiser so not so easy to stop like the FJR. It was close enough to make my heart pound for a bit.

When I went out to Texas Hill Country the deer there were like mosquitoes in Florida. They were everywhere. I was scared to crank it up on the twisties too much because of the number of deer. Luckily and because I was watching close I didn't have any close calls.

We just had a youth hunt season here to thin them out a little.

I got a rabbit Tuesday. Luckily, the wife didn't see it. Made a notable thump under both wheels and didn't damage the trim. So much for his feet being lucky.

Why are you talking about "had to lock up the brakes" when you're describing how well the anit-lock worked????

Grabbing a lot of brake is not locking up the brakes.

Just being a jerk, nothing to actually contibute. :)

Forest rats have to be the stupidest species in the mammilian world. They scare crapless on the bike.

"Oooohhh that's an elusive little creature....."
