Banner Elk Ride to Eat plus.

Bayou Smokehouse in Banner Elk NC. Sept 12, 1:00 PM is where I’ll be. Anywhere 2 or more gather in the name of riding there to eat, it shall be called a RIDE TO EAT!

https://bayousmokehouse.com/

That covers lunch. Supper will be at Hungry Mother State Park.

The plan as it is right now:

Leaving the Greenville SC area and hitting some favorites-Lake Lure, NC80, NC261/TN143 Roan Mountain, with tent riding pillion, on the way to Banner Elk. Lunch at Bayou Smokehouse. Then it’s over to Shady Valley, up to Mt Rogers and then to Hungry Mother to pitch the tent for the night. Sunday is for exploring the Jefferson National Forest area- VA16, VA80 Clinch Mtn, Burkes Garden and such, and then heading back down to SC. If Sunday runs long, I’ve got the option of sleeping in the tent again and heading home Monday morning, as I don’t have to be at work ‘til Monday evening.

If anybody wants in on any part of this adventure, the more the merrier.

I would love to join in the festivities, but wifey and I have previously scheduled festivities...

but dang, all those roads sound awesome. I would even pitch a tent!

As I mentioned in the other thread, I would be all over this, but I will be on a trip to the Northeast starting next Wednesday. Y'all have fun. Hope to catch the next one.

Duane,

Have you tented at HMSP before? The tent sites are decks. You need to get creative on how to tie the tent down.

There are a couple of us that plan to be in that area this weekend. Sorry we're missing you. Have fun & be careful.

Been posting in the other thread, duhhuh. Only took me a week to catch up, I'm gettin' better all the time!

In any case, my calendar is marked, I'm penciled in. I'll be there if I can. Gladly it's not nearly the distance for me that the last RTE was. Whew!

So, any case, here's my routing. Start bottom right, purple to, red from.

And

Welp, I got a fella to ride along with me. He's a Honda cruiser guy but I don't (and hopefully yooze guys won't) hold it against him. I figured a) he likes to ride and 2) he likes to eat so I asked him if he wanted to go. In fact he and I were riding when he took me to the bbq place in Blowing Rock I mentioned earlier.

[/quote me]

Mine will be an RTE and ride home but yours sounds like a better plan.

Stay tuned. The weather forecast for Marion/Tazewell isn't looking real good. Call me a fair weather tenter, but I may move my participation to next weekend, 09/19-09/20. If I do bail on this weekend I swear it's got nothing to do with rbentnail bringing a cruiser guy

Even if no one else goes, we don't care. As said in the other thread, make plans & invite folks to go along. If yes great. If not fine too. Still gotta eat. I got the "Hi, my name is..." stickers and sharpies. We're good.

I'm watching the weather too, prolly hit some rain on the way home. Cruiser guy doesn't mind- he & I have ridden in a couple of gully washing frog stranglers. Even the ducks were looking for shelter. If in your shoes I might cancel too. Camping to me is no fun, in the rain is miserable. BTDT.

You guys have a good time and post pics. For me it'll be a do-over next weekend.

Looks like it's gonna be me and cruiser guy. Oh well, a ride's a ride.

I'm in for next Saturday!

Russ, how was the ride yesterday?

It looks like Duane and I are going to meet up, ride to lunch, then continue north with tents, camp somewhere, then ride the twisty roads back down to SC.

It was good. A little rain in one town going and coming but otherwise perfect. Temp dropped 10-12 deg to 58-60*F between Lenoir & Linville but it was dry by then. There was only 3 of us- Barry the Honda Guy who rode with me and Rod, a fella from fjrowners. Food was excellent! I think we all left pretty miserable from eating too much. Got to yakking so much I completely forget the food porn AGAIN! DuhHuh on me. I did get one pic of the other 2 guys but have been to lazy to transfer from my phone.

Yeah, I'm usually too hungry when I get to a restaurant to remember that there are poor waifs on the internet that like to spend time staring at other guys' food. :D

Yep,

That looks like the place we ate on Saturday as well.

We had some good weather and spectacular roads for Sat/Sun riding.

Love my FJR, the roads we rode, and even the camping was not bad at all.

I will definitely hit those roads again sometime...maybe in the spring.

So few photos, you'd think all you guys were CIA and went out of your way to avoid pictures posted on the web. 'Sup, dudes?

<edit 1 minute later> I stand corrected: ONE photo of TWO guys, and one of the guys doesn't ride an FJR. I am beginning to suspect that the ride never happened and rbentnail posted a photo from shutterstock.
