2003 with original black bar ends, bent the hex key trying to get them off.....any suggestions ? Also replacing handgrips. Do I just cut the old ones off ? What do you use to get the new ones on ? Can you tell I have never don this before, it should be easy, right ? HELP.

These are installed at the factory using the heavy-duty Loctite Green.... very very, VERY tough stuff, especially after setting up for 3-4 years.

Since they are going anyway, cut the grips off so you can apply a heat gun right to the affected area.

Then to remove the bolt, invest in a Craftsman 3/8" socket-drive allen wrench, and use a breaker bar if you have one. Don't apply a steady force (so you don't round out the hex bolt), rather, use a quick snapping motion with the breaker bar (simulating a air gun-like force) to "break" the hold of the green loctite.

Good luck....

Like WC mentioned, you want leverage.

I used a hex bit that fits into a socket wrench. Something like...

I broke it loose with one solid motion on my 04.

Installed new weights with that bit and my torque wrench.

Hex/Allan keys are small, short and wimpy and for small jobs.

I had no problem at all on my 04', I think WC's advice should work.
