I am wondering if anyone uses a battery tender that plugs into a powerlet outlet? I have my powerlet wired directly to my battery so my logic tells me I should be able to keep my battery fresh during the long months of winter by plugging a charger into this. Is this logic correct? If so is there a best choice of charger to wire a powerlet plug too?

I want to leave the battery in my bike for the winter. I did last year without a charger and it has worked fine but I think it is better to keep it on a charge.

I use a tender, but not in the powerlet. I have a separate wire that hangs down from the battery and is accessible from the upper right "gill". The plug is like that used in trailer lights. One side male, other female, and has a cap to cover both. 10 amp fuse.

Although sometimes I wish I used 10 gauge wire and a 30 amp fuse. Easier to jump start it that way. Don't ask....

I put tenders on all my bikes. Even used one on the riding mower.

Access through the powerlet is fine, though ( I have those, too). I could access mine through the cig socket, as well.

That is exactly how I do it. The Battery Tender plugs into the Powerlet plug in the dash panel. Works perfect.

 
Battery Tender? Is that anything like a Chicken Tender? Oh, that must be for climates where you lose 3-5 months of riding per year.... ;)

I use the Craftsman version, and plug it into my Powerlet outlet. I have had nothing but trouble with the B/T brand, having been through a bunch, but the Craftsman equivalents have never failed or boiled a battery.

 
I probably need one for my Land Cruiser, it hasn't seen much action since the FJR showed up. Except for this weekend, going camping and leaving the bike in pieces, wimpering in the dark garage, awaiting me to finish up the swingarm service.

 
I have a solar charger I use on mine......riding mower, that is, it sits up for months at times, but there hasn't been a week go by in years that I couldn't hit those Hill Country roads at least one day. :yahoo:

 
I have a Kisan ChargeX zip tied to the frame and the cord tucks into the right side fairing lower. If I need a charge, all I need is a power outlet.

I hear that! The only problem is the 5 miles of freeway I have to travel to and from the twisties, avoidng LEO encounters. It's like having to cross the troll-owned bridge to get to the promised land.

I live on a backroad so that's not a problem. I hate getting on freeways, and only need to if I wish to go to the big city. I usually do that in my pick up.

I wish..try 5 to 7 months! :(

 
Maybe it’s old school thinking, but I always bring my battery in for the long winter and periodically attach a BT. It says in the Yamaha manual that a battery should not be stored in 30F or lower temps. It does get colder than that in my garage. Really not a big deal taking the battery out of the Feejer after a little practice. Cheers and to a long batt life. :D
