It is time to get off the snide so Dan Thaler and I ( and you if you want to

ride ) are planning to attempt a BBG 3000 ride from south Florida to Nuevo

Laredo, Mexico and back starting Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM.

It is late notice butt... We are IBA riders.

Join Us Anywhere On Our Route - See Link Below

If you want to attempt a BBG 3000 and be able to say you went to Mexico and

back on the weekend you are more than welcome to meet us at the starting

location, Racetrac 2300 W Broward Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312, around

9:30 AM Friday morning August 4, 2017. This is not a group ride or a

"planned" event but if you want to join us come on down. You can ride as

many miles as you want and stop whenever you want. We are all going to ride

our own ride so there will be no pressure for me to try and keep up with

you.

You can also join us anywhere along our route and ride some miles with us.

Ride as many miles as you like or that you can stand in the heat.

Hello Greg.

Dan Garza here, a physician working in Laredo Texas and commuting to Monterrey, Mexico every weekend for the past 19 years.

One hell of a ride you are planning, best of luck!

Wanted to mention a couple pointers: Do go across to Nuevo Laredo as soon as you get here in the very early morning and before you stop to rest at the hotel because Juarez Lincoln Bridge (also known as bridge II) is the only one open in the city at this time for dealing with non-commercial traffic, (bridge number 1 is being remodeled and closed to vehicular traffic at this time) so the commuters and shoppers from Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo Mexico -even on weekends- can and will saturate the bridge.

Traffic and wait times in the smoldering heat can become a real problem when returning to the US if you go across by 10 or 11 am so plan to go across real early, then take your well-deserved break once back on US soil.

Monterrey is only 150 miles south and it is a very worthwhile destination!

There's an excellent, safe highway and then a toll road to get you there and once there, there are plenty of mountains and twisties to enjoy, there are several large BMW dealerships/shops as well, just FYI...

Best of luck!

Daniel

Daniel, thanks for all of the information. We planned our start time so we would be crossing the bridge around 5:00 AM so we can beat the heat and traffic.

I want to ride farther into Mexico some day and will keep your comments in mind. Thanks!

Looking forward to the ride report. Also interested in your recent switch from Gold Wings to a Beemer. Want to share?

Well looks like this ride is going to happen as I just dropped my wife off at the airport for her flight to Washington DC for her conference so I have 3 days to play.

We will be staring tomorrow ( Friday ) at 10:00 AM in Fort Lauderdale. We choose this starting time as it will have us arring at the Mexico border in the early AM before any backlog of traffic crossing into Mexico and back into the US. This will also have us riding through Texas at night on our first BBG when it will not be so hot. We are hoping this will help conserve our energy for the second BBG ride back to Fort Lauderdale. It also has us starting our second BBG at 10:00 AM leaving south Texas before it gets into the low 100's. We know it is going to be hot and raining along our route but if we want to ride we have to endure the elements.

In Louisiana…

Looks like a few light showers here and there throughout the day. That was probably a good thing with the heat.

Houston timing looks good and blasting through the night in Texas - Looks like a well planned out ride.
