Be careful folks! About who you are talking to when you’re recounting your FJR adventures.
It’s rare for any of us at work to take more than one week of vacation at a time. I’ve never seen it happen in the building I work in now until I took over three weeks worth in one chunk for our trip to YFO. People noticed that I was gone. At work the old ”he’s out on FMLA for gender reassignment surgery “ gag has played out so word got around that I was out riding about.
Upon return, when folks would ask about our trip, I’d punish their curiosity with a tablet loaded with about 300 m/c trip pics. Most people would flip through a few dozen, say “wow, looks like you had a good time”, and move on.
At work there are 4 of us in our work group. We get along well. I’m #3 on the seniority list. Yup, 15 years to claw my way to second from the bottom. We choose (bid) shifts based on seniority. I rarely see #1, our shifts don’t overlap.
It’s quite a while after our YFO trip when #1 and I cross paths. When he asks about our trip I just happen to have my tablet in the car. #1 studies my pictures with more interest and at more length than just about anybody else has. The fact that he did so, while not even on the clock, should have caused me a little concern. He asks a lot of questions. He’s only been out west once. It was a haul *** out to Moab with buddies, driving in shifts, attend a jeep event, haul *** back home kind of thing. We talk about our trip; the weather, the traffic, the crowds, the age of his kids, how fast kids are grown up and gone, etc.
We bid or vacation time based on seniority. We are in the process of bidding them now. I just got the bid sheet. June is completely wiped out
#1 has put three weeks together in June. He’s taking the family out west. #2 has taken another. That kills my chances at both CFR and The Black Hills Roundup.
Damn! I should have told #1 that taking 3 weeks in June sucked and that I couldn’t wait to get back to work!- is one way to look at it.
Another is to tell myself that my little adventure inspired a fellow to take his family on a big vacation to see this wonder we call USA.
I think going with the latter will ease the pain caused by lack of seniority.
