Need the size for rider and passenger. Also, is the Ultimate BeadRider worth the extra coin?

Anyone got one they want to sell?

Barry

I bought Beadriders for my Gen 1 w/Russell, rider and passenger. I used them once and did not care for it. It is the regular wood model-black. Let me know it you are still looking for one.

I tried the beadriders once. Felt like I was sitting on rocks. Sold them shortly thereafter. Just my bony ass opinion though.

I use them and love them. I first put them on before a long trip of about 3 weeks on the road. Took me most of the first thousand miles or so before I really knew how much I liked them. Up till then, I was just trusting that I eventually would like them.

IMO, they're definitely for warm weather riding. It's not that you feel the air flow under you, but you're MUCH more comfortable when heat and sweat that normally make all day in a sitting position so miserable just don't build up like they would otherwise. As to "sitting on rocks," as far as I'm concerned they'd only feel like sitting on rocks if you put them on a wooden or concrete seat. If you put them on a foam motorcycle seat (like ALL motorcycle seats are), your butt will push the beads down into the seat and you'll be fine, and you'll have a little air circulating under you that helps a LOT. And if you slide back and forth or side to side a little, you can give yourself a very comfortable "mini massage."

My advice, if you bought a set, give them enough of a trial to get used to them. I think you'll end up loving them.

+1

I've got the beadrider ceramic kit and love mine as well. I think the beads help minimize the friction points on your butt as well a noticeable increase in air flow.

Well for my butt on a stock seat they felt like rocks and I rode with them for several weeks. Maybe you have more padding on backside than I do. Just offering up my opinion on how they felt to me. A good friend of mine had some he put on his gold wing and liked them. I suppose some people are different.

I have the regular Beadrider product and use it on my stock driver seat all the time. The beads are very comfortable and great for warm weather riding. I can get a good 3-4 hours out of the beaded seat before I need a break.

The beads do not fit properly on my Russell seat due to the wings (which reflect my XXL size). In addition, I would be hesitant about using beads on my Russell if I planned on selling it at some point in the future. The beads do a number on your seat cover. Your experience may be different.

Glad you mentioned that! You may have just talked me out of them.

They deform the surface of the leather seat, yes. But it's temporary and if you leave them off for a couple days it goes back the way it was, just like the creases on your face when you sleep on a crease in the blanket. I take my Beadrider off when it's cold, leave it on when it's hot. No lasting problem with my Bill Mayer leather saddle. And I LOVE the B.R. in the heat!

So back to the original question, what size are people who have them getting?
You should probably stick to the size recommended in the BeadRider sizing chart (12"x12") for the stock seat.

In my case I'm using a cut down 14"x14" on my Bill Mayer seat. I cut 2" off the length and kept the 14" width.

Sorry, I missed their recommendation. Any recommendations for using them with a Russell seat?
Measure your seat for the area you want the beaded cover to lay on and then pick the closest one BeadRider has, but I'm willing to bet you'll end up modifying a 14"x14" one like I did.

Now you have done it, you have gone and applied logic to a thread on this Forum. The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

I have the 13" x 13" for my Russell front seat. Fits fine. I just actually did a week long 5500km trip that started with the bead rider on. After the second day I took it off as it was hitting to many pressure points and actually hurting my ass. It is nice in real hot weather but that is about it for me. My ass was fine for the remainder of the trip which included 2 x 1000km days.

Actually the beadrider site recommends 11"x11" for the Gen 2 front seat.

I bought one last year and really liked it during the summer months. Contact the good folks at Bead RIder and they will tell the perfect size needed. It does feel a little different at first but I ended up really liking it.
