Anyone figure out what is best to guard the headlight assembly from stones? It appears I took a stone to the headlight and now I have a minor spider crack.

I have not seen an acceptable method that does its job and still preserves the beauty of the FJR front.

I bought the tankslapper kit for my bike, which comes with the 3M clear adhesive guards, but never put them on because they make the lights dim, and overall, are not very attractive on the lights. Otherwise, the rest of the bike has the tankslapper.

I've seen CeeBaileys solution, which looks marginally OK, but still a bit odd.

Are there any other alternatives, that still look good?

Have the CBaileys, look great and I don't have any headlight damage. Define "odd".

I have the Ventura guard, which I bought from California Sport Touring. It is one piece that extends across both lights (and therefore the space between them, too).

I like it just fine other than the velcro pieces are quite small (I only used four but it comes with more) and I have accidentally knocked it off onto the ground when washing the bike. Oops, butter side down! Oh well, a couple of light scratches aren't noticeable unless you look for 'em!

I sometimes ride about town with it off, but definately put it on for the highway. So far, so good, but then again my bike only has low miles (no damn time and a wife with a never ending list of shit for me to do).

Odd means, takes away from the beauty of the FJR front end. The CB guards, and their velcro attachments look odd and detract from the beauty.

I was hoping the 3M film would be the least obtrusive, but it is not.

Actually, dg, they look fine. I have never had anyone say "yo, fugly guards dude". I do know they have saved the headlights from abrasion, as they are showing the effects. They attach with 3M Dual Lock, kind of a heavy duty-no fabric velcro, a little goes a long way, so BrunDogs experience simply doesn't happen. They pop on and off with ease for easy cleaning. Up to you I guess, but I luv 'em. ;)

I actually ordered then canceled the cb hl guards, I ordered them with the standard contour 4+4 cb ice blue shield, I saw the shield at EOM with guards and had to call cb back to order the guards again. they looked that good on the bike with the ice blue shield, I put the shield on when I returned home from EOm and can say I now can wear my helmet with out feeling like I'm someone's speed bag. btw 5'9 with D&D riser installed. I can actually hear the music playing in my ear phones with the shield up also. So fwiw I like the look of them. Hope this helps. MIke

I guess I should also have said I got the _clear_ CB guards. Do _not_ order the tinted ones. They'll reduce the amount of light you through forward, and that's a "bad thing"[tm]

Hey Radman....
"yo, fugly guards dude"

    -bvw. :D
You should talk, panel boy...... :p At least Franks put together. For now. ;)

I, too, have the CB's. They work well but the large round velco discs do look a bit utilitarian. But, it serves its purpose.

I'd like to know why CB doesn't have the dual lock fasteners in black instead of white think they would blend in better.

I'm riding with them naked. I've been riding bikes my entire life and have never had a light knocked out. What's with all this paranoia?? Are these lenses more vulnerable then all of the others?? :beee:

When I was a "rookie" I only had a bike and was following my boss one day. I was an electricians helper "sparky" and he was hauling his ditch witch. As we left all the rocks and mud came flying off of the trailer and the entire way down the road I ate rocks. I never had the light get damaged but in those days there was no helmet law and my entire body took the brunt of it.

I learned quickly to not follow big trucks and if one is on the highway I get around them like my ass was on fire.

18 years riding street and never had an issue with a car or bike headlight being damaged. Of course the material that the fjr and my dodge Ram 2500 are made of "plastic" are a little different than my yamaha maxim 550 :D

I've had a couple cracked by debris over the course of almost 40 years riding/driving. It doesn't happen every other day. But then, none of them cost $300 to replace either. With the CB's, they were $25 or so on the windshield/pair deal. One good wack and I can peel 'em off and be okey dokey. Don't like 'em, don't fukkin get 'em, but don't be dissin people that have. You got insurance? Ever needed it? Those who haven't are then idiots for having it. Everyone knows you don't get anything preventative until something has happened to you when you didn't have it. I mean, duh....
