Best time of year to ride ?

Can't take the heat...

Thinking Mid Sept to October

I'd love to check out some ride time at Ranier and whatever else for pictures and scenery... Wide open to suggestions, and have absolutely no plans at this time...

Never been to that part of the US and would love to do some riding... I won't have but 10 days so I'll have to fly and rent a ride... not sure, Wing or FJR if its possible....

Don't really care where I start, but would love to make it up towards Vancouver Canada and back...

Any Suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated....

Where would you like to fly into? Northern Calif. to Canada has some of the best riding in the US.

Don't think your going to find heat this year as we have only hit 80 once for 45 Minutes.

As far as rentals try RT & Brenda at Mountain to Sound

You didn't say how many riding days you had but there are a number of good riding areas here!

This trip was going to be all about riding and site seeing from the bike...

I really didn't mention where to land, as I figured it would really depend on where I could rent a decent bike - I was hoping something other then a hardley which generally seems to be the norm.

Even though it will likely be a solo running trip for me, I was considering the Wing for as much storage space and comfort. My long distance riding is limited with my occasional lower back irritation. Hence the big couch the wing provides.

I see there is a Mt St. Helens run going on in late Sept... That sounds interesting as well....

Kinda Makes sense to me to land in Seattle and head in whatever direction the wind blows...

Making all that many more sites avail to see....

Now is a good time. All of the passes are open now, still lot's of snow at higher elevations, but the pavement is clear. You will find it on the cold side from what you are use to this year.

Get AAA maps of the states and just about any tight twisty paved road they show is great to ride. 10 days will give yo a pretty good sampling.

Scenery looks breathtaking just from that first pic on that site... Hells Canyon was def one on my list....

You'll never see me bitchin about the cold... I ride down to 30 or lower as long as there is no snow...

I figured It would be hard to find a bad road to ride from all the posted pics I have seen from all you great guys in the PNW....

I am always in search of the best seafood I can find.... Gotta Have it :yahoo: I'll be looking for eatery suggestions as well...

I think that just may be my best bet... Seattle it is...

I'll have to figure out a way to get there.... Walking is gunna take to long...

To get back to the weather part of this thread, when does it start to snow or really get ******? We're probably not going to Kanuckistan this trip but certainly around 410/12 by Mt. Rainier.

How late in the season do you guys keep riding? And like Warpdrv said, cold's not a problem as long as there's no snow

Mountain to Sound does offer Airport pick up...........$55 one way. And if your talking SeaTac to Mountain to Sound it about 30 miles!

A lot of folks ride all year hear but after the middle of October it starts getting wetter and colder. I watch the weather reports and ride I just watch for the dryer days. I love sick leave, just tell the boss that I'm having eye problems and go riding!

I love the September - October riding here the weather is never hot the trees are turning. By the end of October it's getting wetter and the leaves start falling not always a good combination, good for butt puckers!

The wet sides 45 degrees doesn't sound to bad but with the rain and wind/chill factor coming off the sound it can be a bit miserable if you don't have the gear.

Any good suggestions for places to stay for the first few days to get our feet wet in the Seattle area. I don't mind riding into town to see the sites.

$200 / night area is comfy - - certainly don't mind being away from the hustle n bustle of the city. Cool laid back suburban lifestyle is my thing - with good places to eat seafood and get some cocktails.

North or south of the city - makes no difference to me....

It's in the mid 50's right now at noon in Seattle. We're fully fogged in with less than a 1/2 mi visibility from my house. At this rate it ought to be in the 40's by Sept and raining. Hoping not cause i have a ride in Sept i want to do down to the OR coast and back.

But seriously, now is the best time of year to ride in the PNW. Do bring a layer or two for these colds mornings.

From others that have PM'd me, I'm rethinking Seattle and likely going to shoot for San Francisco and head north up the PCH... I'll likely be bringing a Pillon now and not sure that would be the best scenario for this type of trip.
