I do have another story. I was in a 1964 Triumph Spitfire (rag top) and I was 18 years old (that means steam driven engines to some of you wise-*****). I was driving down I-5 in Cali just north or San Clemente on my way home from work. I am in the slow lane and putting along behind a big rig, not even close but behind him 1st in line.
This truck ran over a full sheet of plywood and stood it up on its side right in front of my car. I had instant visions of "Daemon" and my low slung car hitting the bottom edge and it coming through the windshield and cutting me in half. I threw the car into a slide and caught it broadside. The car spun around once and I was up on the dirt shoulder. The car the went end over end with me in it.
When it stopped I was upside down, the car was smashed level so the door frames were supporting the vehicle and the windshield frame was gone. I had ducked my head as the car went over, tucked my elbows into my gut, and wedged on to the steering wheels bottom edge to lock into the seat. There are no seat-belts in a 1964 Spit convertible.
When I stopped I could see no light since the car was on its top and everything was smashed flat. I was still in my seat upside down and the "Roof" was now a couple inches from my head as I had my face dam near in my lap. I pushed hard and the car moved enough for me to get purchase with my legs. I pushed with my legs and got it to stand up on the mangled metal. I crawled out from under the car just before the first person who stopped got there.
I was most assuredly in shock. I had a small scratch on my arm from crawling out from under the car on the shattered glass.
I did not even hit my head, I did not go to the doctor, I did not get a ticket........... The medics and LEO's were astounded and kept checking me over on the scene looking for something to treat. I could not even remember my name I was so shook up. My car looked like an aluminum can that had been stomped on. My brother came and got me. It was a week before I could drive again.
This was back in the late 1980's I just now remembered it happening... Yea. I respect those big boys
