my son got me a motorcycle jack a few years back and i've not had need to use it so far.

well now's the time. i am going to re-install the original dog bones and i tried it on the center stand. well the legs of the center stand are right in line with the front bolts. aarrgg!!! :angry2:

i've been reluctant to use the jack, because i'm afraid to put that much weight on the headers. the arms on the jack arou about 18 inches apart, and non movable.

is this doable? do i need to sell the jack ( it looks like a modded floor jack) and buy farkles? do it off the center stand, with a box wrench and a big pipe? send it off the the mech that has a real lift and pay them $$$??

I use sears jack the arms go under headers and support weight no prob. Some use wood spacers to contact frame rails....

Floor jack? who'da thunk it?

I normally just park mine on top of Andy, Ray, Tom, or Bill.. I prefer Bill as his body provides a bit more lift.

Seriously though. Mine has spent a whole winter with the header holding it up, it's actually quite stout.

Actually Bust just fills his gas tank with hot air and the bike floats.

Bust has a lot of hot air to spare. :p

Sounds like you have a MC jack that is intended for HD's and cruiser style bikes. With no frame rails under the FJR, I'd be reluctant to support the entire bike with just the headers.

IMHO, sell the jack for farklebucks and have a dealer re-install the stock dog bones.

Make one of these and you don't have to worry about the headers: Bike support block

Edit - Jacking the bike up under the engine is only good for removing the front end stuff while still on the center stand.

To remove the center stand and rear suspension parts you need to lift the rear end. You can make a "pipe frame gantry" or just put a stout anchor into a ceiling joist somewhere to lift it. Figure on lifting up 600 lbs. with whatever you use.

+1 on the above.

I have a welded closed eye bolt (.5") run thru the garage ceiling thru a 4X4 with a 2x4 atop that(large washer and double nuts locked together) runs across several roof trusses. In the past, I've used it to pull small block chevy engines with transmissions so strength isn't an issue...

Some soft ties with MC tie downs around the rear subframe, maybe the same on the handle bars (to keep stable or flopping over). Connect all to a come-along already on the ceiling hook, adjust with the tie downs as necessary, and crank up on the come-along.

You only need the rear tire slightly off the ground so it shouldn't be a problem...
