I have purchased some of my riding gear from a local BMW/Ducati/Triumph shop. They know I ride a FJR and are always trying to get me to ride the 152HP sport tourer they offer. They think if I ride it I'll buy it. I'm sure it's a great riding bike, but I'm not interested in paying nearly twice as much for what I've got. I've never been one of those riders who needs to be able to say, "I ride a BMW". I really don't like the looks of the fairing on the BMW either. The motor has adequate power and BMW is known for their bikes handling. I tell them evertime I don't need to ride it to know I have the better deal and most likely the better bike overall. One thing they don't do is bad mouth my FJR.... That would be bad business and I would take my money elsewhere. I should take the time put a few hundred miles on their Sport Tourer and say, "thanks boys for the ride but I'm sticking with my Yamaha"! :yahoo:

I'd say that's kind of risky. They are very nice riding bikes.

But as you are riding it just keep reminding yourself of this..."Rear Drive Failure".

I traded in my BMW for the FJR...no regrets what so ever...but I do miss the beemer.

(I'd have a GT if'n they weren't so expensive...didn't have RDF problems...and there was a BMW dealer w/i a four-hour drive of my house).

Same here. My wife has a F800ST and we buy a lot of stuff from Cliff's Cycle Revolution here in Danbury. Great guys but they are always trying to sell me a new bike. I tell them if they can sell me their "equivalent" BMW or Ducati for the same price as the FJR, I'll buy one. :)

+1. Love the looks of the BMW R1200RT, but the dealer is about two hours away. Also have a friend that has owned two FJR's, we bought the first ones together (although come to think of it, it is a lot further to Cullman than to the BMW dealer!?!?!?)...anyway, he recently picked up an older K 1200LT for him and the wife. He had tire issues in Las Cruces, NM last week, had to wind up leaving the bike at the Honda dealer there while they ordered a tire...Nice thing about Yamaha and Honda, lots of dealers in the network....

As I have mentioned before, the Manager at Sandia BMW in Albuquerque is a friend of mine and an all around nice guy. He will let me ride his bikes and keeps telling me to go in to ride a 1200GT. He says he used to manage a Yamaha dealer but rode a Beemer the entire time because they are far superior bikes. He also tells me one of these days we are going to go on a ride, him on his GS with knobby tires and I'm gonna end up buying a Beemer 'cuz I will tire of looking at his license plate all day. I figure either he #1 underestimates the FJR or #2 underestimates my riding abilities. For the sake of my ego, I'm gonna assume #1.

What I do know is, when my friend who did buy a bike from the BMW guy took his GS in for service, he was loaned a 2004 1200GT. I rode that a little, but it's performance was no where near my Feej. So far, I really dislike BMW brakes, and it absoultely did not have the get up my FJR has. I'm getting ready to break 10k and the last couple of thousand miles, it feels like it has gotten stronger. I like this bike more every time I ride it.

On this note, if you were with him, you SHOULDA called. I thought the LT basically has Goldwing tires, and there are lots of dealers here in Albuq. Cruces is not that far away, and I would put it on my bike and hauled *** south. I'm assuming it was dropped off at Cruces Motorsports. They are nice guys, but always seem to be short on parts.
