Great motorcycles, until something breaks. Their quality assurance program needs some retooling I say.

I work on most anything that I can get on one of my lifts and each one has their own set of issues. The problem I get into with BMW is parts. The lack of dealers and their pricing make it tough. The old bikes are what built the reputation for longevity and dependability and IMHO the newer ones are no better than anything else on the market. The FJR had the ticker scandal , The KLR has the dohickey issue, the spyder has DESS problems and it goes on and on. nothing mass produced is immune. Buy and ride what you like and ride it like you stole it.

So, moving on from BMW bashing, let's go back to the topic of the thread: The stop sale and fork recall.

How the heck does a fork problem result in a company wide safety recall significant enough to stop sales? Are the forks falling off the bike? The linked article doesn't say.

Fork seals leak enough fluid that front brakes or calipers may be compromised?

Potential sudden seal failure that results in big fluid splash, dramatic front suspension failure, and endo worthy of YouTube video?

Lawsuits from fancy-schmancy riding gear getting ruined by fork oil dripping back onto the rider?

Come on, y'all. Your turn ......

Found this over at Stromtroopers:

I rode with a guy who had his new GS forks snap completely off at the triple tree. He knew of a few other that had the same issue. I saw a new GS, sitting behind the local dealer, with the exact same issue. The fellow was initiating a class action against BMW to deal with it. According to him, BMW ignored/denied the issue even existed. Maybe this is the result of the pending legal action?
