I had been looking forward to seeing what BMW is going to release as the street version of the S1000RR sportbike that is competing in WSK this year.

Saw it just today.... holy fookin' crap.... this S1000RR writeup from SuperBikePlanet.com pretty says it all.

Here's my favorite quote from the article:

my first thought upon seeing photos of the street BMW S1000RR was that Pierre Terblanche deserves an apology.

As usual, The BMW owners will buy this thing even if it looks all dorked up.

OMG, it is like a 999 hit a CBR. I really like the specs and was hoping they could of just put a set of blinkers and a pair of HID's on the race version.

"The S1000RR is an "asymmetrical design." In plain-speak, both sides of the motorcycle look completely different. "

I guess that's OK......You only stand on one side or the other at one time. Probably never notice it yerself. Plus, it'd help you determine which side you're on without having to look to see where the back or the front is

DAM, it got slapped with an ugly stick :dribble:
More like a beat-down! On one side it looks vaguely like a Triumph bug-eye, on the other like an FZ1. It better run faster than a Busa, handle better than an R1 and tour better than a 'Wing to be THAT f-unly.

Another quote from the same article:

Well...she's got a great personality. The mechanical specs of the S1000RR are certainly impressive: defeatable ABS,...
Haysoos-Maria...! Why would anyone want to 'defeat' such a g-d miracle of modern science...?

You can hardly buy anything without it -- and, now they don't want you to use it...?

Whoever has this bike had better ride damn fast so the only part that is seen by anyone is the rear end (hoping it is not worse). Dayum, I don't ride sport bikes since can't fold the old bod up enough, but that is one I'd be embarrassed to be seen on Ima thinking.

I saw the S1000RR on another board and when I saw the front end pic - I really just started busting up. I mean come on... the styling with the assy-metrical headlight - the way they have done it, is really horrible. I'm pretty liberal in my M/C tastes, but this is too much. And if you look at the sides as well, one side has gills and the other side has well, just a hole I guess. Sort of over load on the asymmetrical thing.

Other than that- I like bike! :dribble:

I get it, that you don't buy a BMW to look pretty, but this is taking that thought to extremes. It's like wearing white shoes after Labor day, or wearing spandex past either size or age 12...... or something like that. Some weirdo might even LIKE it.

Some bimmers have...uh..."unique" ABS systems that will cut the brakes out completely for extended periods if it gets confused, such as a rear wheel lift over a bump. The F800 board has several posts regarding this unique approach to ABS. I hear that the new 800GS models have "defeatable ABS" systems as well. BMW says that cutting out of the brakes is a "design feature", so no problem exists. But they have started offering this defeat option on the newer bikes for folks who want the ABS turned off... :unknw:

On topic, looking at that thing makes my head hurt. I just can't seem to wrap my head around that unsymmetrical approach. I guess most of the bimmers have unsymmetrical headlights, but they are fairly subtle in design. That's just...ugly.

I'm not sure which looks better:

or:

Maybe that's why BMW did it, they couldn't decide so they went with both?
Can you shrink the round ones down and put them on top of the parallogram ones? Might look good that way. Yah know, sort of like a Viffer.
