Shipped? NO WAY.
I'll either drive down in my truck and haul it back, or, more likely have my buddy fly me down in his plane and drop me off at Folsom Airport, about 3 miles away.
In a perfect world, I would magically appear in Cullman and wisk the bike away. 480 miles each way. Nice way to break in the bike, then do the break in service at my house soon as I get home.
When it gets to that point, if there is someone else in the Illinois/Indiana area that wants to pick up a couple bikes at the same time, that would work out. Actually, I could haul 3 or 4 easy enough. The same buddy of mine would lend me an open trailer for behind my truck. However, his plane is only a two seater, so airplane rides for fellow owners are out.
Renaa said they would come to Birmingham or Huntsville to pick me up if I wanted to fly commercial. Now how is THAT for service, especially when they aren't making hardly anything on these bikes! Gotta love it.
Don't know about the one way rental car thing. That's probably more expensive than an air ticket. Not as expensive as the AvGas (100LL is about $4 plus) but the whole thing becomes an adventure.
There is a guy about 90 miles from me selling the bikes for about $500 more than D&H, but I figgered that A.) I could get to Cullman cheaper than that, and B.) would rather they get the business. YMMV.
