I loved watching American Hot Rod. Seemed like a good guy......
I wouldn't wish death on anyone, but Boyd Coddington was a hardly a "good guy". Innovator? In some ways, yes. Definitely a driving force behind the currently popularity of hot rods. Also a shady sonfabitch and admitted perpetrator of fraud.

Regardless, I hope he rests in peace and that his family finds it as well.

I only know what was presented in the show. I have no reason to believe you are wrong Jazzy, but aside from a little anger from time to time, he seemed fair and honest as presented. Certainly bright when it came to his cars.

As to fraud and "shady" -- he was in the used car bizznezz wasn't he? One man's fraud is another's good business :p

Besides, he's dead, so I personally don't really care about the skeletons in his closet now. I'd prefer to remember him as an artist in sheet metal.....

All depends on what you read and who wrote it.

I read this...

"Now he has copped a plea to a misdemeanor charge for submitting counterfeit vehicle titles to the California state DMV. He was forced to pay $3,000 restitution and must perform 160 hours of community service. Fake titles were used to id cars as older or less expensive than they really are so owners could pay less in registration fees and sales tax and to escape air pollution regulations.".

OK...so, he used fake titles so the customers could save a few bucks. Wrong? Yes. Worth being hung at the town square? Hardly.

The fruad he was involved in was him building custom from scratch hot rods and using vins from original classic cars to beat emissions and taxs. Sleezy sure, but nothing many haven't done before.

He was definitly a visionary and damn good at what he did. I met him a few times back in the early 90's and sadly, his personality is exactly how you see it on the American Hot Rod show. He's not acting. Doesn't make him a bad guy, just not the kind of person you want to interact with on a daily basis.

:Thought it interesting that Foose was their key interview. If you watched the show, it sounded like bad blood between them after Fooses split.

And I did really like his cars, will be missed. RIP

I liked him. He seemed a decent sort. Must have been to keep an ex-wife on the payroll.......unless it was just cheaper that way?

Deffinitely an artist, nice to watch the effort that went into getting things just right. Sad.

Ya know, there are a lot of things to get done before the funeral, and I just don't see that we have the time to finish....
