What color is the brake wire for the rear brakes on 08 FJR and where do you guys cut into the wire. I want to put in a relay. Thanks

The wire is yellow and runs down the left side of the frame (as you sit on the bike). The wire harness runs up the rear fender. You can see where I tapped into here: Pic, it's the eight pic down. The first pic on this page shows the harness as it is going to the taillights.

Why do most people tap into the brake wire for power?

This is the brake light wire that will turn off the audiovox cruise control. Not a good place to tap into for power.

I asked since I would assume it is risky to run power off such a vital safety feature such as the brake light. It just seems from what I've read to be a popular power source and thought there must be a logical reason.

we are talking about the brake light and not the tail/running light correct?

What is a good power source for power other than the brake/tail light?

Marker (running) lights on the side fairing to operate a relay that is hooked to the battery. That way a low amperage switched source operates a high amperage circuit to power your electrical add-ons.

I use the windshield auto retract loop as I have eliminated that function on y bike, so that is an easy, unused low amperage power source to my relay.

Look Here: FJR Tech, specifically @ "Disabling Windshield auto-retract" and "Installing a 12v barrier strip". (I installed a 12v auxiliary fuse block instead of a barrier strip)

You wouldn't want to tap into the brake wire to run a relay (other than for cruise control) as it would only activate the relay when you used the brakes anyhow.

If you are just looking for a relay trigger wire take a look again at v65's eighth picture down, and just below where he tapped in to the yellow wire you will see a black and a blue wire with bullet connectors. The blue wire is for the license plate light and you can simply build a jumper to go in between the factory bullet connector and run a lead off that to trigger your relay. I have attached a diagram of how I did it for my Fuzeblock relay trigger. No cutting, no splicing and no posi-tap or vampire clip needed. Just a couple bullet connectors from Radio Shack.

Madmike and silverhound, thank you for the information. I just received my fuzeblock and will be installing this weekend. That jumper idea from silverhound is really nice. I might go that route.
