Lately when I apply my front brake only or use both front and rear I have been noticing a bit of a squeal. When I use the rear brake pedal only (I have an '08 model with linked brakes) their is no noise at all. Anyone have any ideas about getting it to stop?

Remove pads, clean everything, smear a little copper grease onto the back of the pads, re-assemble.

Oh, and make sure the brakes go on hard before going on the road.

+1 Gunny

Only clean the metallic sides with no brake material on it, otherwise you will ruin your pads and they could be slick and very dangerous.

Your pads could be glazed from heavy braking or the pads dragging. They could also be real dirty. How do your rotors look? Gouged, or eatin' pretty bad etc. But really I think it's what MT stated above. Your brake pads move a bit and it rubs agains the piston and squeals. Most auto parts stores have anti-brake squeal goo for this very reason. Remember, none on the rotor side of the pad, only the back or piston side.

Thanks for the info.. I haven't done any real heavy braking. The Bike is still fairly new (got it last Sept), I only have a touch over 5K miles on her. The brake rotors are in excellent condition. As for dirty, well I am very anal about keeping her clean, but that doesn't mean some road dirt has not made its way under the pads. That's what had me puzzled. Being that she is still so new and to have the brakes starting to make noise.

It's obvious ...... your bike has reached the end of it's usefulness, sell it to me for $1000 and go buy

a 2009......... it will come with new brakes......... :D :D

Kromm,

You left out the MOST IMPORTANT LINE in your sig file:

A good friend will come and bail you out of jail in the middle of the night. A Better friend will be sitting next to you saying "DAMN!! that was fun !!"
"A BEST friend will help you bury a body and forget where you put it."

:)
