A recent post about RedLight King expanded my current musical library!

And somewhere, some sage mentioned that alot of 40 - 60 year old geezers are stuck in a time warp.. never to escape Skynrd, Allman Bros, etc.. and that alot of great current music exists..

So, I are one of them..

sigh

Then, post up good **** like Redlight King..

Rock, bluesey, kinda Rap (not too much, tx) that has a good back beat, grinding bass, soaring lead guitar, rhythm to keep it solid, with vocals that *have content!*

Any takers?

Sorry, nobody's digging me out of my 70's classic rock, Rhythm and Blues foxhole. It took me a long time to dig this hole, and I ain't leavin' it for rap.

Since discovering Radio Paradise I've no reason to return to the Seventies.

May they rest in peace.

I've moved on to offshoots of the Greatful Dead... Leftover Salmon ("Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass"), String Cheese Incident, Railroad Earth. Then there's old standby's, Little Feat, Lyle Lovett, Charlie Robison (the great song-writers).

Check the Live Music Archive for free streaming downloads of live music taped during shows (allowed by the bands, F/U SOPA).

But speaking of the 70's, TRI Studios hosted an excellent free live streaming concert by The Outlaws tonight. They rocked the place! Watch for their new album out soon.

Alot of great esoteric stuff out there. Hard to pick just one, but I've really come to like Southern Culture on the Skids. But then I'm kind of a closet hillbilly.

For a great European artist, Janet turned me onto Zucchero.

There's some really good local unsigned rock groups around Metro Atlanta. One group I like is "Holdcell". They have their own southern-bluesy-rock sound and are really good live. I don't know if they have any online MP3 songs to download or not but you can purchase their CD here 7 Heavy Grins

To here there song "Holdcell" go here Holdcell

To here "El Gallo" go here El Gallo

---------------

Another good local unsigned band is "Eleven Standing Still".

To hear their music go here ESS Music

Listen to their songs "One way ticket", "Breakthrough" and "Frailty".

Once a Deadhead, always a Deadhead! It's been 43 years since I took a swig of Jack Daniel's from Pigpen's bottle at Avalon Ballroom in S. F.; was briefly stationed at US Army Presidio before shipping out.

"Who are The Grateful Dead and Why Do They Keep Following Me Around?" I will stop being a fully certified and loyal Deadhead when they scrape my "Truckin'" tattoo off of my right bicep at the Morgue!

Son of ***** dcarver, I know you turned a Double Nickel yesterday, but kindly please keep your girlie-man, swishy, soft and effeminate kissy-face boy bands to your fecking self! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

very cool! I barely caught hold of them before Pigpen was gone.

i spent 5 years trying to figure out what kind of tattoo i wanted; something that meant something to me and that i'd never regret.

to go with them i like a very healthy dose of Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Howling Wolf, Etta James, Leadbelly, Lightning Hopkins, and others.

In the middle of the night, when I need to motivate the bike, I like NiN, Rob Zombie, Metallica, NWA, Cypress Hill, Primus, Motorhead, Alice Cooper, Bush, Cake, and others.

I used to listen to music when I still had hearing.

My best memory was when the Allman brothers just showed up at a small roadside dive in Easton, MA that sat maybe 100 people. They were in Boston for a gig and were slumming. They ended up picking up the local band's instruments and doing two sets for drinks. People were standing on the tables...

Anybody know a good deal on hearing aids? I'm not in the mood to listen to rap at all. Just sayin' and 'nuff said.

Michael, I just sent you an email copied to my Girlfriend Donna; My Baby Doll just got hearing aids last week and they're really helping her out at her work: Paralegal!

A good way I found to learn about different bands I might not be familiar with was to sign up for "Pandora".

If you are not familiar with "Pandora" it is an internet radio station. When you sign up (for free) you give it some examples of music you like. They use some kind of process to find other songs like it and just stream them to you. I've got an app for my phone so I can listen pretty much anywhere. You can also listen over some speakers on your PC, and the new blueray DVD player I got even has Pandora built in. I've found some really cool stuff listening to this service!

I've been leaning towards blues a lot lately. Really liking Joe Bonamassa right now! You can set up several different "stations" for different types of music, so you can listen to whatever you're in the mood for. Or you can just click on the "quick mix" button and it will give you a bit of everything.

If you like a little funk, with a really good horn section backing things up, check out a group called "Here Come the Mummies".

The lyrics are full of double meanings, the mummy costumes are a bit odd, but the musicians are all top shelf and are having a great time. I seem to remember reading somewhere that there are several grammy winners in the group. I think they just use the mummy costumes as a way to play crazy music without being recognised by some of the stuffier folks in the industry.
