All,

Four of us are planning a first ever trip to the Bristol Nascar race in August and are coming from the Seattle area. I have tickets in hand for the race, so the next order of business is to find lodging. As expected, anything close already reports as sold out so I need some local expertise. If any of you out there are Bristol race experts, or live in that area and feel like helping out compatriots from the Northwest with some good insider information, please send me a PM and I would love to chat with you offline.

Once that gets worked out, I will be looking into the feasibility of renting bikes, preferably FJRs.

Last, I have season tickets for Bristol this year and will soon be selling the Spring race portion. They are good seats and are for both races that weekend. If interested, PM me on that as well.

Not a Bristol expert by any means. However, I did go in to the August race in 2007 and stayed in Asheville, NC. I believe it was the Best Western towards the east end of town. Asheville was a great place to stay and about an hours drive from the track. Definitley would do it again.

Also, the I-26 has been recently redone and is a very good highway.

Once you've witnessed Bristol no other race seems as exciting.

I used to live in the area (Nashville) and the closest and only bike rental place I know of is Knoxville Eagle Rider. They only rent Harley's and Hondas. Same for Nashville Eagle Rider Although Ron in Nashville is a *really* nice guy. Tell him I said hi if you rent from there. You won't get a discount but he'll laugh at you. :)

Thanks fella's. I imagine I will end up settling with a car, but I may check in with the Knoxville folks since I am flying into that city. Looks like lodging will either be a long ways off or very spendy - everything shows as sold out to about 40 miles if it is "just a regular old room".

Bristol is a small town and may become boring if you plan on spending several days before or after the race.

The motel/hotel situation is based on a local population of maybe 45k, so when another 150k come to town, the rooms are usually sold out up to 1.5hours away for 2-3x normal room rates.

I don't know if you've considered it, but there are several people that open up their homes or even rent the entire house out for the race weekend. There are several brokers that handle this. One is below, there are several others;
