British car based TV show (wash my mouth out with soap), Top Gear it would appear is running out of ideas. The three presenters were sent to Alabama to buy 3 wrecks for $1000 each or less, then they were set a series of tasks. This one is to decorate each other's vehicle in a manner that might lead to being arrested or murdered, then drive around for the day. We Brits found it hallarious...would be interested to see what you guys think. Not laughing at Americans, but at these 3 idiots.

PS The short guy in the white pick-up was nearly killed last November whilst trying to break the British land speed record (car). He lost control at just over 300mph. He suffered a big head injury and was critical for a week. He is an ardent biker and often clashes horns with the other 2, the tallest guy, Jeremy Clarkson hates bikes big time, probably because he is 6'5 and would look silly on one.

Any 6'5 bikers reading this....no offence :dribble:

I guess that's as amusing as American tourists getting their asses beat for wearing Man U scarves in the wrong pub in Manchester.

Re the scarves...an unlikely outcome these days, maybe in the 60's or 70's. You can probably get a good hiding in most pubs in Manchester if you say the wrong word, with a Manchester accent...let alone American. Probably Man-U fans that did it!

No offence intended.

You don't even need to say something offensive to get run off. I was in a pub in Wales back in 1991 (I think) and they were hosting the Rugby World Cup. They had lost to Fiji or Western Samoa. I mentioned that the other team must be very good. Meaning, since they beat Wales they must be an excellent side. I was told to leave the pub or face the consequences. Couldn't even finish my drink.

That is ok I still love Wales....although rugby sucks!! :)

None taken. I was actually born in Manchester Southern and moved to America in the 60's. I have been a Man U fan all my life. :)

The point I was making is that every culture has their hot buttons. Some are more sensitive than others. To go around and intentionally piss people off isn't what I would call good humour. Laughing at ourselves is a lot more funny and a lot less offensive. I think that host of that show is an ass. I've seen him quite a few times before and he just strikes me as a pompous asshole.

That said, yes, the concept and then seeing the truck did bring on a wry grin, but only because, like you, I was laughing at the idiots that were doing it.

Where in South Mcr? we are in Sunny Stockport.

The main presenter, Jeremy Clarkson can be very witty...but gets most of his laughs taking the piss out of other people. His pet hate are bikers. He is one of those characters you either love or hate. Most hate him and then he comes out with a funny line. He writes a column for the Sunday Times and has been presenting car shows since god was a lad. As someone said on the British forum that I lifted the link from...'wouldn't it have been nice if they'd just caught Clarkson'

We lived in Hale. I was born in the hospital because I was the 5th kid. 17 days later I was on a 747 into Boston, my port of entry so I can't really claim that I know the area very well

My family moved there in 1961 from Wolverhampton, and previous to that my Mom was from Plymouth and Dad from London.

It would have vastly more funny if they had caught Clarkson. Hmm...Clarkson...good Alabamba name there. I bet he has relatives that were throwing rocks at him.

Here's an irony...Hale Barns is where a lot of the United team live. Hale is an up market area....Hale Barns (adjoining Hale) is a Beverly Hills type place with mansions not houses!!

About 3 miles from Stockport.

What is the link with Clarkson?

Ya'll wait here while I get the boys! hahahahah

I think the "Manlove is OK" in pink ON a pickup is what did it!

Having lived half my life up North and then the other half in the deep South (including 2 in Bama...looked to me like they were on I-10 in Mobile crossing the bay for a while there) I love it down here. Like everywhere else you have idiots but what can you do?

country is rubbish
Hummm...

Something is wrong with that sentence. Is it country? Nope thats not it. is? Nope thats not it.

How about country sucks? Ahh, much better.

Gaawwwly Andy, looky here. We got us some people try'n to piss us off. What yall think we should do?

I know lets go get the dawgs from under the trailer and go burn a cross. Is yorn white sheet cleen?

Having been - born, raised, edumakated, and lived my entire life in Redneck Bama, I call bullshit.

The cars passing them honking the horns were because they were driving too damn slow on the highway!

People looking and reading what is on the car, well imagine that. Alot of companies do that for advertising because people do look. Great editing. Oh, I LOVE the black screen "radio show" That's because NOTHING was happening.

Speaking of radio... country is "rubbish" or as I would say crap. Give me some good rock or techno.

And a pickup load of folks on the road pulling into a gas station in Summer is not uncommon on the coast which is where this looked to be. I want to know where was the flag? If it was REALLY the BOYS they would have had a flag. If you have to ask what flag, well......

Oh, we all go running around calling the place we live a "hick town".

FWIW the demographics of my "hick town" is 25,000.

I'll say creative editing that took a while to get that little bit.

Next time tell them to go to Compton, Ca and start yelling something that rhymes with bigger but starts with an "N". I'll wager they won't have to do much editing then.

The tall guy is an ass

BTW Nascar does suck IMO.

I knew there was a reason I left there 23 years ago.........................anyway, up the spurs.

+1 with the Fence-man on this one. Creative editing and a bullshit call. I have lived in a lot of places, both north and south, and traveled many more. This type of stereotyping just isn't real from my experience. If Alabamians were even slightly prone to such behaviors, painting the vehicles would not have been required. All they had to do was speak.

Jeremy Clarkson (the tall one) makes a lot of money out of pushing peoples buttons and he's famous / infamous for it. Especially the bit about hating bikers - he has suggested stretching piano wire acoss the road before now.

The little guy who nearly died in the 300 MPH crash is Richard Hammond - A very well established and respected biking journo and himself a sportsbike rider. He's also noted for blowing things up in a programme called "Brainiac - Science abuse"

The third member of the trio - the scruffy looking guy is James May who recently made a brilliant programme where he accompanied a Wine nerd around the posh wine regions of France and embarrased him at every step.

I think Top Gear has reached the end of its road. It's all been done before IYSWIM. I was only barely paying attention to the Alabama story on the TV but it didn't look particularly interesting so I just carried on with whatever I was doing at the time (yawn).
