Went to have it X-Rayed today as it still can't support much weight and my chest and arm muscles still feel numb.

After showing him how it would move when I put my arm back he said it was from the collarbone rotating.

Then after seeing the x-ray he changed his mind on that theory. His words, "theory".

The x-rays showed very little bone growth in almost 11 weeks and he has now sent me to get a CT scan.

He wants to see more as to what may be blocking it from healing before he goes any farther.

He believes most likely scar tissue from all the bruising in my chest has now blocked the bone growth path and if so a plate and bone graft may be necessary.

On thumpertalk.com a very well respected MX doctor has spoken of the recommend procedure and I will try and make sure my doctor uses this procedure before I get it done. The precontoured locking plate is the one recommended and the system is by Acumed.

I wish I could have convinced my doctor to do the surgury sooner but he said then it wasn't on the table.

Now it seems he is leaning towards it depending on the CT results.

Fingers crossed!!!

****, maximum suckage, dood. You and Highlander better start a forum or sumpin'. I hope the mend comes quick - what ever that may be.

Yea, most doctors still don't want to do surgury on these things. Bleeding and poor results in the past.

Even Dr. Marks in Houston was at one time against them but with this new procedure he is having his MX racers back out on the track in a month. I doubt I will get the CT scan before I leave for Texas as my insurance wants info faxed from my doctor before authorizing so it won't be until I return.

He was talking about electronic stimulous for bone growth and if he starts talking that crap I am going elsewhere.

Could be worse... he could send you to this guy...

I would want to know what is blocking the growth. It sounds like nerve problems also. I hope you get your strength back soon which ever direction you take. TJ

Go for the cut. It's not working this way. After having femurs, ribs, achilles, knees, blah blah blah fixed.. just go getRdone. You will be happy you did. Last fix was the achilles, no it was the knee, but anyway i was given the choice of letting it heal naturally or getting cut. Cut and stitch baby, he with the most scars wins!

sparky, if you're not already on one, start a very very high protein diet.

it worked for me with some very stubborn healing.

good luck,

derek

Sorry to hear that. Hope the news from the diagnostics is good and that you get back on the healing path soon. Sounds like that must be painful to have this continuing without healing.

Sorry to hear about your collar bone but I can sympathize with you.

I broke my collar bone while in the military, it remained broken for over a year.

Yes, I was still riding but it was painful at times.

By the time the military doctors fixed it, they had to take part of my hip

bone and make me a new collar bone.

The orthopedic surgeon told me that 1% of the populace does not heal

well with broken bones............lucky me, I fall into that category.

Hope you get well soon.

well, 18 years after breaking my collar bone badly and not having surgery the thing grew back, but I still wish they had done surgery. My motion is not limited, but if I do too much overhead movement of the arm, I get bursitis something awful!

Thanks for all the well wishes.

Surgery is what I want at this point and will wait to see what this doctor says.

If after the CT he is still apprehensive to do sureury I will seek someone else.

More than likely there is scar tissue or something blocking the 2 bones. They are probably a half an inch apart from the x-ray. Indications of a little calcium build up on the top bone but nothing that looks like it is going in the direction of the bottom bone.

I went to this guy because he has a good rep and is a sports doctor. His methods are suppose to be geared towards getting you back out asap and surgery will do that.

I will know more when I get back from Texas as my CT is scheduled for that Monday the 17th. I hope my insurance approves it.

Pain is a constant nagging and a little burning sensation.

Damn in the back of my mind I keep wondering if I am going to get back on my dirt bike. I want to but I have to weight the consequences. I may just ride somewhere different that isn't so technical, who knows, first onto healing...

thanks again.

Believe me if it was my choice and only my choice it is what I would have done in the beginning.

Now I have to be patient and see if Dr. Smith comes around or if not I will move on.

I know it is the right thing so it is a matter of finding a competent, willing dr.

Broke my collarbone last Oct. 5 months later it hadn't healed(I've had many broken bones over the years and they used to heal fast). After the 5 months, doc told me to go ski, which I did. 10% to 20% of such breaks don't heal. Smoking can effect it as can age & even the degree of violence that caused the break. Doc said after 5 months it's not going to heal as the bone ends seal shut. I may not notice it,he said. I've skied, climbed mountains, dirt biked and ridden my 06' FJR & it hasn't really bothered me. Getting surgery in Oct. Should be skieing by Jan. Better days ahead.

Mine was pretty violant. I am not the toughest guy in the world but I know what force is and I hit the ground HARD! Good luck with your surgery!!!

thanks. You too.My doc said repaired collarbones are stronger than new. I broke my other collarbone in high school, wrestling. In 2 weeks I was doing a few gymnastics. But that was long ago. You might consider surgery & then forgettabout. Lots worse can happen to a guy. GOOD LUCK !
