A gravel truck put a couple of smash spots on my headlights, one in particular (right side). Now, what should I do? Is there a replacement or a "modified replacement" possible?

Thanks

Unfortunately, if you broke any piece of the clear part....I think it's a replacement of the whole headlight assembly. Besides not being an subparts available...the unit is glued together pretty tightly and doesn't lend itself to patching as it's not a flat surface.

Taking the nose off and back on is a few hours work for a first-timer.

Gotcha, another rider had given me Cee Bailey's information also. Live and learn, I guess.

I have removed and replaced the lens on my FJR housing during my HID retrofit.

If you can find a good condition lens, it is possible. You can't buy just the lens, as other mentioned. You may get lucky and find another member who, like myself, damaged the rear mounting points and replaced the entire assembly, but had a good lens remaining.

To remove the lens you must:

1. Preheat your oven to lowest temperature.

2. Turn off the element

3. Place headlight in warm but off oven, let the adhesive re-melt. (even still I had some areas of deformed plastic on the rear, I should have waited a minute longer)

4. Very carefully pry off the lens from the housing, releasing all the snaps.

It must be re-heated for installation.

Well, I had been meaning to get these guards, but this got me off dead center.

I was driving through northern Michigan this summer and came up behind a pickup truck that "kindly" moved over to the side of the road to make it easier for me to pass. The problem was his big wheels hit the berm and started throwing large 3/4 -1-inch rocks back at me. Had a good one deflect off the knee pads, and was lucky then not to catch one in the headlight or fairing. Damn rocks didn't just fly straight back, but deflected off the inside of the tire and shot back toward the road center.

So Bradman, if you have comprehensive insurance, this is probably covered for you at minimal deductible. I wouldn't go to extreme expense or repair effort until that avenue is checked out.

Thanks. It seems like it is going to be costly for me to do any replacement.

Slapnpop might just have something as well. Thank you.

One of the first farkles I added: https://www.lamin-x.com/Yamaha-FJR-s/1048.htm I've used their lens protection film on my cars for years and they have saved me a couple of Nissan Altima headlight assemblies. Those big clear lenses on the FJR just cried out for protection as soon as I looked at them.

Oh, thanks for that link...that stuff looks better than the velcro-on Cee Baileys.

Cee Bailey headlight armor arrived today and is now installed. Cheaper than a deductible. Brad, hope it works out. Let us know if your insurance covers this.

I've backed off of the insurance thing for the moment, since the lens is still there. I also ordered the Cee Bailey pieces and will put those on. I put some glass break stuff on the spots that were hit by the rocks.

I appreciate the help, hopefully I can get it fixed later.

Have you tried to secure the Lense using SuperGlue or Plastic Epoxy... this will probably do with the CeeBailey Guards?

It would be interesting to take it into one of those windshield repair places. They inject a clear epoxy and while it's not a perfect repair, it would be interesting to know if the material is compatible with the acrylic plastic lens. The armor will cover the lenses and you may not notice the cracks for a while, but in my experience (with windshields), once plexiglass cracks, it starts crazing and fogging along the stress lines.

Yes, I patched it up with some super glue for the moment and will instally the cee bailey's when I get the right ones. They sent me Gen 1 ones at first. Thanks for the advice.
