Bruce was a great guy. Talked to him many times at his dealership in Daytona.

He was a rare Harley person who "got it" --

He reveled in building a business that he called " Halloween for adults."
"You can dress up, put on your leathers, go act like you're a biker and on Monday morning, go back to Wall Street," he said in an Orlando Sentinel interview.
He knew the HD mystique was about dollars, not about a way of life.

Just viewed those massive billboards this pass weekend on I-95.

His Daytona shop was more like an indoor mall.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said two separate crashes occurred in chain reaction as the 30 law enforcement cycles from several agencies traveled north on Halifax Drive about 9:20 a.m. before the funeral.

I am not surprised at all that the motorcycle cops had a few spills...whenever I have seen/observed 2 or more motorcycle cops riding in unison on WA freeways at 60 mph 15inches apart I always thought why create this hazardous situation; cause they wanna look cool cruising down the freeway???

Rip Bruce.

He was right though. Go to bikeweek here in Daytona, its a joke. He just capitalized on what these folks down here are into. Expensive bikes and expensive accessories that theyre willing to pay for just to have "that" logo stamped on EVERYTHING.

Daytona bike week at some point went off the rails and became no fun anymore. Vendor after vendor and overpriced beer. Lots of fights, EVERYWHERE becuase its a bunch of lawyers and doctors trying to act like outlaws on their Harleys, most of them lightweights but drunk for the occasion. Halloween is a dead on comparison.

I dunno. I remember when i was a teenager and was in awe going down there. *******, freindly beers, real biker stuff. Now it just seems like its way more uptight, and packed with too many damn people. Not to sound ********, but Sturgis seemed much, much more "real". The people were super freindly and the cops didnt bother anyone. (by comparison) The cops in Daytona hand out tickets for guys ape hangers being an inch over the legal limit. Hand out tickets for people putting their glasses up on top of their heads while sitting completely still in traffic. (eye protection is the state law)

R.I.P. Bruce....

Got a kick out of this...

Motorcyclists wearing leathers and suits and regular people in suits attended the funeral of Harley-Davidson mogul Bruce Rossmeyer on Tuesday.

"Regular" people.... :yahoo:

The link may be broken so I was unable to check it this evening, but one of the more sobering points in Rossmeyer's death was that just a week or so before the trip to Sturgis where he was killed, he had decided to retire. The week before he left for the trip, he signed the papers to transfer the Triumph - Ducati franchise which he ran in a small store in his Ormand Beach complex, to BMW Motorcycles of Daytona Beach, about 13 miles south off of US 1.

The billboard photos of Rossmeyer along I-95 predated his death I'm pretty sure. They seem stuck in my mind dating back before 2009.

In any event, he certainly did build a helluva business.
