I promised to do a Q&A class/session on creating routes, GPS files etc. at this year's EOM. If there is serious interest in doing this I'll do my best.

Thinking that Friday evening would be the best time. JWilly is bringing a projector and my laptop is coming up in the cager via TLC courier services.

Here's some ideas for topics. Feel free to post replies with your own.

(I can't believe I actually opened that door!)

Q. What are my favorite programs for creating routes, exchanging file formats etc.?

Q. MS Streets & Trips, a quick look?

Q. How to stay off Main St. in Podunk NC?

Q. GPX, GDB, MPS, GD FORMATS, what do they mean?

Q. How to avoid ever running MapSucks?

Q. Why is it so difficult to share / Do's and Don'ts of shared routes?

Q. What can you tell me about the Zumo that I might not know already?

Q. What the F--- is JWilly doing to Scab?

Hey Jeff,

Let me thank you in advance for doing this. I know I, and hopefully many others will get a lot out if it. As far as ideas , looks like you will have it covered. I would like to see you walk thru the hole process, from making a route to loading it into GPS.

I put the 9 routes for EOM in my Zumo (easy to do) once I figured out how. :yahoo: I first tried to drag & drop them, but it didn't work, then I used the "load to device" tab, and that is perfect.

I really appreciate all the work you have done with all this, so the first beverage is on me.

Ride safe & See ya soon,

Art

Jeff, I will be there for sure. See my post on "Maps don't match" I just put up. This happens every time I try to use someone else's maps. I can't figure out why.

Ed

Ed, I put up a suggestion in the other thread. I am betting that will solve your problem.

From what Jeff has explained to me before is that message will appear if there is any difference in map versions... from the creator to the user. It is a map version & firmware situation... as in, not running the same versions as the route creator. That is why I recalculate routes in my own software when I receive a route from someone else.

I don't know a ton about GPS's... but this I do know.

Jeff, I am bringing my wife's digital video camera with some mega-gig hard drive in it. I can video the presentation for future posterity.

Well, except for that last topic. I'm sure my battery will be dead by then.

I'm thinking I really don't want video of my fat, tired, stinky self at the end of a long day's ride. How about we get Vanna to do the presentation, or maybe that chik will be in the bar again?

+1 for the video. I will be unable to leave the fine republic of Tejas for EOM, so would really appreciate being able to see the video as would many of our FJRForum familia.

Gunny on the video. This would be a VERY valuable addition to the forum.
