My spousal unit has her parents and Aunt and Uncle staying with us, so we wanted to show off Alaska to them and prove to them that you could see Russia from our back yard too…

We decided to start off with some sight seeing and some bay excursions in Valdez, plans were made the ball was set in motion and than I got the “Call” Sgt Butler we know you are on leave but we need you to come into work on Tuesday give a briefing and get PROMOTED!!! The promotion I knew about but I thought I could get away from going to the ceremony (more on that later)

Day one

Well before I even left the neighbor hood I ran into this family and had to hop off the feej with camera in hand to document the sighting. The family didn’t see this because the cage needed gas and that took them the other direction.

About 150 miles into the trip I decided to take the first road pic, as before this spot it was raining non-stop and it covered most of the sight s up so here I am sout hof Paxson Alaska in front of the pipe line

A pic of the water in Paxson I believe it was called Summit Lake. The road from Delta Alaska headed toward Valdez has some the most awesome sights. I was quite selfish and didn’t stop much because I was giddy with the sights and the twisties.

The next three pics are of Worthington Glacier. My family and I hiked the front portion on day two on the way home. At the crest it butt’s up to another glacier that goes on for a little over 6 miles.

This is on top of Thompson Pass right before you drop into Valdez, I had to do a little ADV style riding to get down and the looks I got from some dual sport guys was priceless as I was making my way down. There were so many trails down there I was really jones'ing for a dual sport or a dirt bike to tear it up.

This is a pic in front of bridal falls (there are two waterfalls here but I only wanted a pic of the lady from the wedding party)

Final destination for the night

To summarize day one everyone reading this could re-enact a large portion of the ride by putting on your helmet and standing in the shower. However when it was not raining the views were amazing and I was selfish. I ran into a group of guys at Tesoro in Glennallan from ADV rider and with them for about 30 minutes traveling a total of 6 miles and had to excuse myself from their formation. Besides the moose, I also saw caribou, lynx and almost ran over a black bear. I have a few pics to post for day two so if you care to see how my trip ended stay tuned.

Day 2

The day started out with us stopping at horsetail falls again so here is a fuller shot of the waterfall and well of course you guessed the bestest bike ever made.

Random pics I almost forgot

Here are the ADV guys I ran into GL1500, GS1150 and F800 (I think) They all loved the Feej and were going on how great it was, I should’ve asked them how they liked the looks of the dual pipes.

Stopping through North Pole

Good time overall, got bored riding by myself so I was hitting the throttle hard quite a bit. Found out my newer tires rock but even they cant keep me from sliding on the double yeller lines when it is raining them ***** are slicker than Rosanne Barr oiled up going down a slip and slide. I really ought to get a new jacket; first off it is too robust for warm weather riding and does not provide enough protection from the rain to make it worth anything. A modular helmet is a must; my highway pegs were the best 100 farkle ever! I need to order new pants that are cut fro someone with a longer inseam in mind. Looking at Rev it or some tour master that come in a long cut it really sucked having my pants come up over my boots time and time again. Well ramble time is over I will have to improve my memory and wit for future reports hope you enjoyed my slice of heaven, well at least the slice I stopped to take pics of, if any of you make it up this summer look me and we will go touring. If you cant make it this summer you have to ride the Richardson to Valdez AWESOME!

Thank You sir for your service!!

Also thank you for those great pics that glacier is amazing.

That had to be a real wtf moment for the guys on the dual sports.

Nice pics! I'll be home soon enough. Will probably make that same trip past Delta (where I grew up) on down to Glenallen. My extended family owns the Tolsona lodge down there. Will also be in Fairbanks/North Pole for a week or so.

Too bad I won't have the Feej with me!

So what's it like riding on those roads? Dips, cracks, loose rock, permafrost heaves in the pavement.... must be interesting! By the way, watch out for the troopers past Delta and down by Glenallen... they'll getcha every time. :ninja:

EDIT: Congrats on the stripe! Got to see two of those pinned on today as well. :)

Hey Congrats on the promotion and thank you so much for your service. My son is a Master Sergeant stationed in England. I'm so glad you have some fun times and took some great pics to share. Stay safe and hug that great family.

The road arent that bad actually they have done quite a bit of re-paving where the worst cracks are in the 5 years that I have lived here. There are still quite a bit of perma frost heaves in the pavement and that can get a lil squirley, kinda felt like I was going to launch into space on a couple of them. Yeah the troopers are bad in Glennallen, they got my friend Julene two years ago for crossing a double yellow, well she crossed it getting back into the correct lane she started her pass well behind the double yellow but as you know there are formations of campers on that road during the summer and we had to pass a formation of like 8 campers. Well hope you have a good time back home you moving back or taking leave.
