I'm thinking about buying an FJR that is halfway across the country from someone on a FJR board (not an ebay sale). No insult to that person, but around $10k is a LOT of money to me.

Going to get it is probably impossible. It will be Jan 1 before I have any time and the roads in my area will soon be closed to motorcycle traffic till the middle of March.

So...any suggestions for how I'd be reasonably certain the bike is as good as the seller says?

And if I do it, any experience with shipping, recommended companies, etc.?

Thanks.

You could post and see if anyone is close to that seller and would go look at the bike. Toecutter bought his '04 that way and was happy, I think there have been others.

Plus, there are many owners currently selling their FJRs who are known and respected on the Forum. SO it might also depend on who the seller is. Smitty, for example, is well known and liked.

Ok, you've got me curious now! Where are you located, Anchorage?

As for shipping it. All I know is, most shipping companies require the fuel tank be empty. I shipped a crated bike from LA to VA. If I remember right the cost was about $400.

Yeah. I would be more than confident requesting one of the forum members here to check the bike for me. It'll only cost you a beer or two at next year's NAFO. (That's the North American FJR Owners meeting that you'll get to go to now)

First what state do you live in and were is the bike being sold from. You can ask someone on the forum to go look at it and take some pictures for you. Also they may beable to arrange a ride on it for you. Next I would look into having it shipped via Federal. They advertize iin the back of all the rags. Or fly out on Saturday and drive home Sunday.

I'm located in the mountains of Colorado at 7,700 feet, surrounded by 12,000+ foot mountains.

The bike is located in the southern part of the country.

I haven't settled on this bike. I have a good lead on a new 08 at a very good price, but this lightly used one is also very tempting.

Way to be so specific?

If its MSC's bike, no worries there mate. Its A-OK. Same if its Ricksters AE

PM me, I'll let you know if I know the person and if its good or not. (since you don't want to post openly

CODan,

Word of advise, if the bike your looking at is in Alabama? Run like a mofo!! That state is full of a bunch of crooks! They will try to lure you in with the Southern draw, don't be fooled. Hell I'd take my chances on someone from Nigeria before I would trust one of them folks in Alabama.

Of course Fencer is going to pipe up and say, Oh yeah, I know him, great guy!! This has all of the signs of a internet scam! ;)

 :yahoo:

Oh, yeah, I know him, Jwilly that is.

Run, Forest Run. Jwilly is the kind of fellow that would screw your dog without the decency of giving him a reach around. :****:

Geez. We stick the poor guy with one little Alabama dog and we're all branded now as crooks.
