I'm looking at a used car here in Minnesota that came from CA. I know that there's a lot of extra emission requirements in CA I'm wondering if that's a reason to avoid this car? The car is a 2006 Saab 93 wagon with the 2.0 turbo and a manual trans if that hepls any.

Thanks!

I thought I remember hearing that alot of cars are coming with the CA emission crap on them no matter where they sell them.

Isn't the fact that it's a Saab reason enough not to buy it? Besides, as a 2006, you don't have much more than the gas/vapor recovery cannister v. the other 49 state cars, IIRC.

I've raced, rallied and driven coast to coast in Saabs they've been berry, berry good to me. If I were to buy this Saab it will be Saab #11

That's kinda what I thought that the differances were pretty minor.

On a side note I originally went to a Saab owners forum to ask this question and found that it cost $45 a year to join :glare: and the damn board is packed with ads WTF  We've got it good here on the FJR Forum :yahoo:

That is true. A lot of the manufacturers have gone to the "50 state car." That way they don't have to install a bunch of extra stuff on the other cars. BTW, CA uses the same emissions equipment as NY and several other east coast states.

Uh, gas/vapor recovery cannisters have been standard on all cars for quite some time, they aren't unique to CA...

As far as differences, a lot of cars, especially recent ones, are 50 state setup. In the cases of of cars that actually have different emissions for CA, it generally comes down to a larger catalytic converter, an additional converter on multi-converter setups (more common on V-somethings, usually RWDs, as they sometimes have a converter shortly after the manifold on each side, then a Y-pipe, and for California may add a 3rd cat after the Y) and changes in the 'acceptable' ranges in the ECU, for example most cars have several O2 sensors, before and after catalytic converters, and may slightly alter the air/fuel ratio to keep the converters in their most efficient ranges, as determined by comparing the readings before and after the converters...

But I'd be the Saab is the same whether CA or not.

odot - I wouldn't be saying too much, being you and Bust are having sleep overs in that tent at his place.

Rick - Other then that at least you know there's no real rust issues to deal with.

Good luck!

I'm in the car business and the Saab 93 is a 50 state vehicle.

No difference between a CA and any other Saab 93 nationwide, except for the standard makeover and fake bolt-on accessories.

Thanks for all the replys, well except for the bit about odot a Bust in the tent  I didn't need that mental picture.Looks like it's a non-issue I knew you guys would be better than those $45 a year Saabophiles.
