Thought long and hard before posting this, which may be (I actually hope it is) an isolated incident, but here goes...

Had the bike in to the dealer where I bought it back in April to get the ignition recall done. Rode the bike in, they took a couple of hours, had the bike back that morning. I was scheduled to leave two days later for San Diego on the bike.

On closer examination, it looked like they had gouged the metal around the stem nut some when taking it off. That was annoying. The real problem came later. I was on my way to San Diego, and felt an odd vibration in the front end. I pulled over, and the pinch bolts on the fork clamps (hope I'm using the right terms) were loose - I turned them with my fingers, and one had backed all the way out of the clamp.

After I had calmed down and got the image of the forks coming unglued at 80 mph out of my head, I did a roadside repair and continued, and called and emailed the dealer to let them know they needed to have a chat with their tech... and never got a reply.

As I said in the first line, it may have been an isolated incident but nevertheless, they'll never see me again.

Service always seems to be the weak point for dealers. I'm in the market for a new place to service my bike as well. Thinking of trying the guys in okotoks. Been there but can't remember the name of the shop.

UPDATE:

As a result of a failure of the AE's shift actuator yesterday, and the help of the good folks on the forum, I've found out that in addition to the above, the dealer never checked for the outstanding service bulletin to beef up the actuator mounting on any occasion they had it in the shop, AND they neglected to give me the new version of the owner's manual when they delivered the bike (which Yamaha confirms was sent to the dealer back in 2006 when the revision came out.

More and more evidence of reasons to stay away...
