Rad I agree with you. I would still ride with my high beam during the day but not unless I am in the front of the group or behind the car.

And what are these?
Click. Upcoming group buy in the works!

Your bike won't melt in the rain. Mine doesn't

RAIN??? Once upon a time when we called NorCAL home it would rain days on end. Now we forgot what it was like. I chuckle when cagers and bikers get freaked with a little (rare) drizzle in SoCAL. But we would trade the SoCAL congested roads for the great wide open roads up there anytime of the year.

I ride with my lights on low all the time as a courtesy to others and use the brights only when needed. I try not to get too aggressive when passing and try to give them time to notice me. When stopped and at intersections is another story. You are at their mercy. I've been there.

I'm not worrying about the bike melting. I've done my share of "rain-riding", in fact the skies had the audacity to open up on me on a ride to L.A. and back. 1K miles in rain....no problem and a great adventure. The issue for this weekend is whether or not I want to plan to ride in it (when I'm already nursing a case of sniffles) then come home and spend the time cleaning the bike and gear. My short answer is....NO! It just doesn't sound like fun. If it were going to be a few showers, riding in and out of them, etc, maybe. I'd rather stay warm and dry, thank you very much.

What happened to the real MadMike?? Warm and dry? You stopped getting wet on the bike years ago when you started buying good gear and electric clothing.

I've seen your bike, so I'll give you the cleaning part. Why I don't know. Wash the lights and the signals, screen, plate & call it good. I rode in the rain last weekend, I rode in the rain today, I'll probably be riding in the rain tomorrow. Wash the bike? Yeah, I'll get around to that eventually. :dribble:

I generally ride with them on during the day, but am looking to install a flasher circuit. My personal experience is that folks 'respect' it much more than just straight high-beams and I get less angry glares (I've got the circuit in the SV650, which I ride daily).

Oregon...Isn't the state bird the DUCK?

LC

I ride with low beams on during the day. When I anticipate that someone might not see me (e.g., when about to turn or pull into my right of way), I set myself up in the best defensive position for evasive action that I can and sometimes toggle the high beam switch on and off to get their attention.
Mostly, I avoid the biggest part of the problem by seldom riding in anything that might be considered urban or commute traffic -- most of my riding is in the foothills and mountains and I always try to avoid congested areas.

Don't get down into Sacramento much then, huh. Pretty soon you'll have to trailer your bike to avoid the "urban traffic".

Worse! The birds drown, so we have a Beaver instead! :yahoo:

Ok, technically, the state bird is the Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta), but you don't find that on the flag. ;) Who thinks this stuff up? State Motto: "She Flies With Her Own Wings" I don't remember that from school!

Hey, your state bird is good eatin' btw. Quail, mmmmm, tastes like chicken.

Oh yeah....there was that weekend in Santa Cruz with you, Rogerfaster and I being the only hardy souls to show up. IIRC, it rained and we rode in the fog on Saturday with Highlander and friends. I wonder whatever happened to THAT Madmike?

Yeah, I remember that ride. I remember following Pegscraper in the fog and not wanting to fall behind, because I couldn't see anything besides the back of his bike and the weeds on the right side of the road. :dribble: And I recall someone behind me passing a certain cage on one wheel......OH GOD........the goat trails..........you brought back the memories of the GOAT TRAILS! Damn you Madmike!!! The Horror! I'll be having nightmares again about not being able to get the bike out of second gear. :help: :mega_shok:
