Checking with my local dealer on some new Avons, I was told that on top of sales tax (7.75%), and the $3.00 tire disposal fee, California now ads a "Tire tax". This is paid on all new tires. Even the sapre in your car trunk is taxed. Due to that and the exorbadent fees for tires here, I was forced to buy on line from the reccomended Southwest Moto Tire. Of course all the dealers as well as Cycle Gear want $30 a tire to mount and balance!

If you found someone that *would* install tires you purchased online *and* they only want $30/tire to install them you found a bargain. In spite of the way it feels, you are getting a good deal.

1. Pay stealer $473.00 for a set and mounting of Pilot Roads, and NOT BALANCE THEM. Use Vaseline as a post F*&$ ointment.

2. Purchase 1 ea. HF Tire Machine., 1 ea. MojoLever MojoLever , 1 ea. Marc Parnes Balancer balancer, 1 ga. Ru-Glide , Stick on balance weights.

3. Order set of Pilot Roads from Derby Cycles - $236.00 delivered. Derby Cycles

4. With the help of BigDolma, pull the wheels for the first time. Note the complete lack of lubrication on everything. LUBE IT.

5. Install Pilot Roads. BALANCE THEM - correctly the second time.

6. ROI on equipment purchase - 1.5 sets of tires.

7. Pay $7.00 per tire disposal fee at Waste Management location.

8. Never pay a dealer to mount tires again - PRICELESS!!

O.K. you got me, I am in process of setting up to do my own tire changes and you mention a " 1 ga. Ru-Glide ". What is it ? Do I need it ?

Thanks

8. Purchase tires at CalCoast Motorsports at internet prices and have them spooned onto your rims and balanced for free. Storms: $255, installed, OTD with disposal fee and sales tax.

9. Snickering at you poor schlubs getting boinked up the ass: Priceless!

:p

We call it elephant snot & it works great....who would've thought  ?
We don't have elephants 'round these parts, so I'll have to check out this Ru-Glide.... if that don't work, I'll just go down and visit Skooter and get some of his 'special' hamster-glide lube he has.

Thanks Rad and all. Guess I will now have to go find some.

Ru-Glide - Napa - Like Radman Says -

Rubber lube, and it actually seals when it sets up. So - if you're planning on using it for something OTHER than tire mounting, be darn sure you wash it off before it drys. :dribble:
