Guys

Can you please advise, apart from being a pain in the ass to get to, if replacing the cam chain tensioner is a reletively straight forward job.reason i ask is that i hear stories of tensioners being done and when removing the tensioner the chain goes slack and can possibly jump a tooth etc. Could this be a issue......And is there anything else i should be concerned about be fore i get into it.

Regards

Gazza

Hi, there is heaps of info around.

This is my story on the Aussie FJR site.

https://www.forum.fjr13.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2306&hilit=+cam+chain

Read esp page 2 down the bottom.

All turned out for the best and learnt a lesson.

Take your time, remove the lower RHS fairing and timing cover.

Keep a lot of pressure on the chain guide, cable tie it before you remove the CCT.

Make sure the new CCT is sitting home.

Cheers

Ken

As already said, there is a lot of information on the forum if you look around. The bottom line is, yes, you can destroy your engine if your chain goes slack and skips one or more teeth on the sprocket. Take the cover of the right side and use something to hold the chain in place before you remove the old tensioner.

Also, you have to work through a hole in the frame to retract the ols CCT, and to release the new one. That hole is a vacuum and sucks in any loose hardware that gets near it. Use care.
