Well, the GV sport bikers whimped out on us, so here's the deal:

7/16 SUNDAY

BBIII and I are meeting at the Cameron Park Shell at 7am for an early departure (before it's too hot) and planning on a long day. I'm not sure how far it will take us, but the first part of the ride is gonna be a lot of fun.

From Cameron park, up to Placerville

193 to Georgetown Right on Main (Wentworth Springs)

Wentworth Springs to left at NF-2 (Eleven Pines Road)

Left onto French Meadows Road

Left onto Mosquito Ridge Road

Right on Robinson Flat Road

Right on Foresthill Road

Turns Into Soda Springs Road

Right On Donner Pass Road

Pass 89 South

Coninue on Donner Pass Road through Truckee

Left on 89 North

89 and 49 merge for awhile

Right on 89 North

89 and 70 merge for awhile

to Quincy

May go onto Lassen depedending on timing.

The way back is simply to turn around and come back any way we want...maybe 89 to 49 to Nevada City

Looks like a long day in the hills

Anyone else coming?

Sounds great!

How's the weather been up by you? Our ride today in the east mountains of San Diego was fun but it hit 102 in the shade.

Sorry, next Saturday I will be riding From Marysville to Truckee where I will meet Turbo Dave and Kaitsdad. We will leave at 8:00am North on 89 thru Quincy to Susanville than 395 to Bend Oregon.

Day 2 we will head for Sequim Wa. vie Hood river and Mt St Helens.

Day three we will follow the coast down to Coos Bay Oregon.

Day 4 we will come down to Eureka.

Day 5 We head for Reno and the WFO I will probably detour back to Marysville to pick up the mrs. and head to Reno on Thursday. Prolly take Old Donner pass Road from Cisco Grove to Truckee or I may take 49 to 70 and then 395 to Reno. :D

Anyone wishing to join us for all or part of our ride would be welcome. :)

Show off :yahoo:

Must be nice to afford to quit the day job Bluestreek to get more riding in....my sympathies are with you....NOT :p

what time are you meeting in Truckee? I was planning on riding from San Diego to Grass Valley on Sunday, but could make a detour (possibly) and head out a day earlier. I'll be riding some of those same roads that week as I'll be staying in Grass Valley a couple of days = then Donner Lake for a couple of days before heading to Reno for WFO.

Hi,

I'm staring at your route and thinking, how they going to ride FJR's on all that dirt?

I believe all this part is dirt, and some of it was real rough last time I rode it on a KLR.

Right on Robinson Flat Road

Right on Foresthill Road

Turns Into Soda Springs Road

I didn't think there was any way to get to Truckee on pavement from this area:

Wentworth Springs to left at NF-2 (Eleven Pines Road)

Left onto French Meadows Road

Left onto Mosquito Ridge Road

on pavement.

If there is, be sure to post the route.

Chuck,

Turbodave and I are riding up to Truckee on Friday the 21st, Bluestreek is riding over from Marysville on Saturday AM, meeting us at 08:00 at our hotel.

If you want to meet up with us, let me know and I'll PM you the hotel address in Truckee.

Hal

O'vale, thanks for the ride & the clear shield @ 23:00. No dirt for us, we modified the route. Lassen was cool, with lots of snow still up there.

0001: Now my wife is missing, so I have more important things to attend too.

0030: Wife found w/ PNM attitude..."I told you it was an all day ride" she says "blah blah blah blah blah",

0031: I say Ok honey, it will never happen again :) yeah right.

We went Wentworth Springs, French Meadows Road (now paved), Mosquito Ridge Road, Foresthill Road to 80, 80 to some an exit that gives you access to Hampshire Rocks Road, which turns into Donner Pass Road. Going by Hampshire Rocks is cool, as is going downt he hill to Donner Lake, going through Truckee was that special though.

From there we hit 89 all the way to Lassen. Up over the pass, once we were on the other side of Lassen we turned around and did Lassen again!

This is the second time I planned a trip using Google and I ran into dirt. Oh well. Can't learn this stuff unless you're willing to go look sometimes ;)

Concur in that last statement, Andrew. I've ridden a few goat trails that were supposed to be paved. ;)

What parts of the route were dirt? I'd have thought that began with French Meadows Road, or at least a part of it. If some of that has been paved, I'd like to mosey out and explore.

From Wentworth Springs all the way to the resevoir, connecting to Mosquito Ridge road is now paved. It is also paved to the inlet of the resevoir (mosquito ridge road goes across the dam)

There are some other nice little crossings that were paved too.

I think the pavement is the result of the Foresthill fire that, and they realized they needed better access.

However, the pavement is NOT Smooth. It is a goaty pavement and requires careful riding. There are sharp turns and a lot of dirt/sand/water/whatever on the road so spirited riding is not in order...anyway, the surface is simply too bumpy to make spirited riding fun.

The only place I ran into dirt was Robinson Flat. Unofortunately, there is 6 miles of dirt between Mosquito Ridge Road and Soda Springs. Soda Springs might be dirt for all I know...I never got there ;)
