Years and years ago, I got wind of a race that was forming to cross the US, NY to San Fran, that was to be the end all to end all. As the proud owner of a 69 1/2 Six Pack SuperBee, a fellow motorhead and I figgered swap out the 4:10's for a set of 3:23's and we'd have a shot at it. Had things pretty well set up when we discovered it was already under way. Turned out it was one of the original Cannonballs, the source had been Brock Yates who intentionally mislead a bunch of people so as to keep the numbers small, or the club exclusive, I guess. We'd have gotten our ***** handed to us, most likely, but then, who knows?

Saw several of Bee’s back in-the-day at my brother’s small-town drag strip. Bet a lot of those guys wish they would have garaged the nicer ones. Oh the money they’d bring today, if they were shiny and spiffy clean.

Had another brother that actually owned a Super Bird for a short time. I was devastated when he traded the bird :thumbsdownsmileyanim: in for a Charger. And still ain’t happy about it!

Well, this one's still in the family. My best bud and I have sold it back and forth ever since. When the current owner needs a cash infusion, the other has right of first refusal, and at a major discount from it's real value, which now hovers in the $75-$100 thou range. The eventual outright sale of this Bee may never happen. And it's a rare example of the rare, with buckets, console, 833 4 speed, fact AM/FM stereo, and all original, numbers matching throughout.

I vaguely remember Cars (or was it Motor Trend) doing a spread on a '69... did the 1/4 in the high 13's, IIRC and got my tightie-whities all wet - so much so that I pestered the hell outta dad to get one. Alas, he was a Chevy man and believed in buying bottom of the heap cars only. Sigh.

What'd that thing have - something close to 400 ponies, backed by 500 pounds of twist? :dribble:

Factory rated it 390 horse, reality (and NHRA) rated it at 525, same as the Hemi, which it beat on a regular basis. Add the headers and tuning we did, and 550 was what the dyno was saying (crank horsies). Joe (Six Pack, get it? ) in his earlier days..

With the 3:23's and Polyglass G60-15's it would tap 145mph before the steering went away, which is why it's probably a good thing we didn't make the run.

I still kick myself every time I see one of those. I had a chance "back in the day" to buy a MINT yellow one for $600, and passed. (around 1980)

:(
