Not that I'd encourage this...but these dudes did it right!

Quite the accomplishment, Coast to Coast "Cannonball Run".

We're still trying to figure out what "record" they broke since no sanctioning body does that any more for public roads.

Followed the original series in Car and Driver magazine. So a record of sorts has been established and published, there were official time keepers.

The question is do they remain?

A claimed time without validation against standing records would be more like Hoka Hey than Bonneville Speed Week. It's one thing to claim a time. That's not the same as "breaking a record".

The cost of spoofing the tech would be less than the claimed cost of the vehicle and the logistics in the article.

The article claims they had validation by using tracking gear monitored by a third party shipping company. It's not quite the receipts and photos of the Iron Butt.

I'm still not making my point clearly enough. I don't mean like the IBA. I was actually thinking Bonneville; not IBA. Without some sanctioning body there's no "record" to "break". There's an event that was done. Great as that might be (or not given the speeds needed and it being on public roads) there's no "record" without a "record keeper".

Sanctioning body or not, if they have a gps tracker that confirms their story...then that would be good enough for me.

Would it be good enough for the courts?
