Not only cost but cost of ownership. Breakage on a race vehicle is another animal than a daily driver.

Change to a Lithium ion battery, go on a diet and drop 20 lb (I could), get rid of OEM exhaust, take off saddlebags and run with a quarter tank of gas.

Edit - would be seriously interesting but no way applicable for a touring bike!

A carbon fiber frame with some kind of crack detection device on a FJR will probably put the price out of reach for most folks. Nice idea though.
