To me, this was "the" iconic image of Shelby.

The first time I ever saw one of his Cobras, it was parked on the street near my house. Open top. How we drooled. And it was the first time I'd ever seen a seat belt in a car on the street! (It was actually a 4-point racing harness.) Just in case anybody didn't already realize how damn old I am.

As a kid in the midwest, there were Ford boys and Chevy boys. I was a Ford boy, and I thought Carroll Shelby had to be

the coolest guy on the planet.

As a 14 or 15 year-old, visiting family in Toronto, I first laid my eyes on one of these ....

(Funny how you remember things like that, but you can't remember your wedding anniversary date.)

At the time, I thought it must be the most exotic, beautiful car I'd ever seen. And I decided I'd buy one as soon as I was old enough.

Never did, of course. (I did own a Chevette at one point.

RIP, Mr. Shelby.

Common knowledge - SacramentoMike is damn old.

At the time, I thought it must be the most exotic, beautiful sexual release I'd ever seen. And I decided I'd buy one as soon as I was old enough.

Dood.......................

Back in the day, I hung out with a guy whose family had 2 Shelby Cobras. Seems to me the dad had died and the kids bought them with the insurance dough.

Pretty cool car, indeed.

But I was too young to have my licence so I didn't pay that much attention to them

I just learned today that he was one of the longest living heart transplant recipients.

A pioneer in so many ways.

RIP.

Al

On Topic: Carroll Shelby was a True American Legend, Rest in Peace and Godspeed!

Jeez Marie Mick, as many times as we Paddies have been married before: We sure as Hell can not be expected to remember all of those damn dates!

Sorry about this, but I was forced to correct your comment on SacramentoMiguel above!

First I ever heard Shelby's name mentioned was n Bill Cosby's comedy album, "200 MPH".
Funny, that is what I was just thinking about while reading this thread.

Oh, and a Ford guy here too. BTW, they are preparing a 2013 Shelby 1000. 1000 hp in a streetable mustang. Hubba, hubba, hubba.
