A word of advice - and forgive me if this has been discussed before - NEVER, EVER put your thumb on your key when it is in the lock of your sidebag and you are securing the bag shut. Place your thumb on the closing latch ONLY when pushing it closed.

Good advice. The wrong outcome can be anticipated.

Here's another I've worked on with the spouse: Never use the closing/latching mechanism itself to snug the lid to the bag (especially if it is almost or is over-filled). Instead press up against the bag lid with your leg to snug things up, then use the closing mechanism only to secure the closure.
