I'm getting the one on the right, thinking about the one on the left.

I've been asking Santa for a cell phone jammer for quite a while, but the people that know me manage to prevent me from getting one. I would surely become a vigilante on the roadways and and in most public places.

There was an article in the New York Times about these jammers yesterday. They are illegal to use in the US and the FCC has gone after some sellers and users. The weird thing is that they don't mention the number one most useful purpose for one, cell phones in cars. They talk about people using cell phones in restaurants, commuter trains, and their therapy session, but never mention driving.

Yep, the FCC considers jammers Bad Booga -

And here's a link you can get one - GlobalGadget in the UK (no, I have no affiilliation, and I have no experience with this vendor.)

I've had a discussion with a forum member that has one of these- he uses it to prevent text messaging, etc., during classroom tests at the college he teaches at - and it just happens to also stay turned on while he's on his bike. He rides along in a 'cocoon' of radio silence.

And they also jam GPS signals, btw.

Interesting to think about - all those cagers around you talking on the phone are now trying to DIAL a call instead of just talking - and I'm sure they can do that with their eyes on the road, eh?

Hmmm........ makes one think, doesn't it?

What?.....I thought they only received calls on the road?.....wacky world.

Yeah, if I had one, it would be installed "stealth" under the seat or something. No one would know. Just phone silence...

My luck, then the disgruntled, angry cell phone user would be distracted by the cell call drop. Of course, in their distraction of anger, they wouldn't see little ole me on my bike. The resulting spray of motorcycle shrapnel mixed with human parts would horrify even the hardest of souls.

While I lay moaning on the side of the road, trying to make myself comfortable resting my head on my left mangled foot, the offending cage driver would empathetically say; "Sorry dude, I didn't see you. I would call for help, but my cell phone don't work. Could you try not to bleed so much?"

I was at the doctor's office the other day, and I learned so much about this woman that was probably only 50-75 feet away from me because she was talking so loud, I felt comfortable enough to invite myself over to her house for Thanksgiving dinner.....and then proceed to tell her off for being so disruptive in a medical office.

I think these should be standard in some places!

I have nothing against cell-phones...just the people that decide to operate a car while conversing on one.

If people feel it doesn't affect their driving, they should legally have to "prove it" by having to take a road course at DMV while being asked driving questions by a second DMV examiner.

IF they pass that simultaneous road and oral question exam, then they can have a CELL license. A license to operate a car while on a cell phone. Oh, and by the way, I don't care...hands free or not.

Can you tell I'm pissed about my 15 yo son (passenger) and I almost getting rammed at speed while stopped at a rural highway traffic light last saturday? :glare:

Yes, you guessed it...cell phone driver/almost killer.

Yeah...drivers go from talking on the phone to screwing with it to see why it isn't working.
Woof cubed
What he barked!

Great how this place works everything out....

"Barking", toe, is equivelant to "pointing and grunting". Old world talk....you should be able to understand it.

In the rest of the world, they're pretty common in theaters, better restaurants, etc.

Oh yeah indeed ...

The use of cell phones while driving is a real sore subject with me. It is especially irritating when I see a mom in a mini van with a couple of kids in the back with the cell phone locked to her shoulder with her head at a 50 degree angle. She is immobile and changing lanes without looking.

I would like to see the blocking device installed in cars and tied to the gear shift. If the car is not in park (automatics) or the car engine is off (standard shift models) the blocker would be active - no incoming or outgoing calls.

There are too many people killed and injured by these cell phone users not to take some kind of action. Two weeks ago a teenager took out his car and two others because he "looked down for just a second" while using his cell phone.

shut up and drive
