Well looks like my centerstand finally rusted through and failed. Problem is I didn't know this was an issue until it happened tonight. Soooo I guess I'll just take off the remains and do without it. Luckily when I dropped my bike it landed on a bag of charcoal and some old motocross gear. No further damage that I could tell. Still pisses me off though. I posted photos on the other forum.

WTF? I cant find your post on the other forum. Would like to see the pics so I know what to look for.

All I have to add is my 10 stand is in pretty good shape, but does get some surface rust on it at times. I mean it is taking a lot of abuse and sludge under there.

When I change oil I take my wipe rag and use it to clean the stand hitting all the nooks and crannies. I also wax and wash it with the bike. I know sounds crazy but it really helps keeping it all but rust free as best as I can. I do the same in the car when I change oil. I use my wipe rag to clean all I can under there and give it a thin coat of oil on any metal pans and parts I can hit.

I do remember reading on center stands breaking on FJR's when I first joined so just took it as a warning to show it attention. I was pretty sure it was design and a support thing in the older stands but I still will keep after it.

Have you looked at your center stand today?

A few years back after reading some of these reports I removed my center stand and had a brace welded then powder coated. Since then, I have it blasted, inspect for cracks and then recoated evry couple of years.

Your best option might be ebay and have a a brace welded if it is an older version.

One big advantage of old British bikes was that they always provided a smear of oil over all the underside. Never had any rust issues.

Did have a few unexplained low-sides, though

Mine failed on my 03' in under a year of use. I received the upgraded centerstand with the additional bracing under warranty.

I know of (2) other 03's that still have the original with no bracing added even after I warned them.

My center stand broke on my 03....I found an 05 on ebay and replaced it, never had another problem.....if you look at the 03 vs. the 05 you will see reinforced corner braces welded in.

Gonna talk to my shop guy tomorrow and see if he can fix it otherwise I'll try to ebay source an '05 replacement.

Yep the ‘03s didn’t have the small 45 degree brace from the horizontal tube over to the vertical tube. The ‘04s on have it. Later,,,De

Hell, everyone knows the only good thing about the 03s is the motor....that's why there's an 03 motor in my 04! :finger:
