I am new to the forum and not yet an FJR owner but am very close to calling Renaa at D&H in Alabama. That's almost 2500 miles from where I live in Bend, Oregon, but I can fly there for less than $200 and the trip back to Oregon would just be another vacation. Even at my young age (63) I think the 2500 mile ride would be a blast. In 1975 I rode a Honda CB350 from Washington D.C., to Portland, Oregon, and it was an experience I will forever cherish. I camped out every night of the nine day trip and had a great time.

I have been told by the local Yamaha dealer that there are probably 6 FJRs here in central Oregon. I have met one of them and was wondering if any of the other 5 monitor this forum. If I pick up an FJR in Alabama, I wouldn't mind a traveling mate.

Bounce is correct give Dan a call he'll come very close to D&H's price and you'll have a good shop, I live in sunny southern Ca and I perodicaly ride up for service.

Dan dose a FJRTECH day once a year and I have'nt missed one yet.HERE IS THERE #505 837-4438

I used to live in Chiloquin, loved the area but lost job so moved back to Ca. Hope this helps you. Let us know how it goes either way.

Wow FJRRambo that's a long ride for not being in the saddle for a while, even if your butt/back but mostly with the FJR the wrist can take it you might want a little experience first. The FJR is quite a powerful machine and you'll love the 100+ real quick, how long do you plan to be on the road? Have you thought about safety equipment for a cross country? I bet these salty dogs on the forum will give you a shi**er full of tips, start a thread! Oh and don't forget weather, weather, weather.

Thanks Bounce and rogerfaster for the info about Sunnyside. I saw their name mentioned in another post a few weeks ago and gave them a call. I spoke with someone named John who seemed like a very pleasant fellow. He told me the base price for "manual shifter" was $12,279 and the OTD price was $13,347. I think the amount over the base was for freight and setup. Maybe I misunderstood. He may have been talking about taxes. Since I live in Oregon I wouldn't have to pay any sales tax. D&H's price is $11,499 OTD. I will have to get back to them and get more info. Is Dan someone with some horsepower? Maybe if I mentioned D&H they might come down a little. Was the price that John quoted to me similar to your experiences? I will have to ride a little either way but Yakima is a lot closer than Alabama. I am planning to go to the San Juan islands in a few weeks so I may plan to go through Sunnyside and pay them a visit.

ibsunburnt: I have learned a lot from this forum but I am sure there is a lot more to learn. I haven't gotten around to actually planning the trip but I did print out a map on Mapquest to check out the possibilities. If I end up going to Alabama, my route would depend a lot on the weather. I probably don't want to send D&H or anyone else my money for several more weeks because I really don't want to be taking a long trip in March. I would be happy with an April or even May delivery. Yes, weather will be a big consideration. I would probably call my wife once or twice a day to get the latest weather information and adjust my route as necessary. When I came across the country in July of 1975, it was over 100 degrees in eastern Montana but when I got to the western part I had to change my route because of snow in the mountains. I know things can change in a hurry, even in the summer, but that's part of the excitement. Thanks for the input.

Try "Oregon Motor Sports" in Medford Oregon.

They have (last time I looked) one '05 FJR1300 on the showroom

floor brand new.

Their phone number is (541) 772-6223

Ask for Scott in the (motorcycle) sales dept.
