If you hadn't noticed, Gramps has stepped up to the plate and taken the Ride Coordinator position. He not alone in those duties thou DaJuice has also volunteered to Co-coordinate. Between these two there's a wealth of back road knowledge. Gramps of course has organized a few FJR forum rides and is always quick to advise others on good routes throughout Wisconsin. DaJuice although a relatively new forum member has been active in the Glacial Lakes MC and most recently helped scout bonus locations for the Bonzai Rally. These guys are two of the best.

One of the potential lunch stops on the Iowa River Road loop is back for business after their 2nd fire... I was there on a rally the year it burnt down, uh... the 1st time, and no I didn't have anything to do with that. It was a great atmosphere, will be interesting to see it again after 2 fires, both causing complete rebuilds.

I hear they have pie.

Here is the Story

Wasn't Breitbach's Country Dining a stop on Alton Brown's Feasting The River Road?? I thought it was, or was it burned down then??

I was through there a few weeks ago things were looking good but construction was in full swing. The view from Balltown is fabulous. I'll post a photo later, I'm still at work.

You are correct... Episode 5: Mid-American Pie

Here is a view, I think I'm 500 feet above the Mississippi at this overlook just Northwest of town.

That place has burned down twice. But they rebuild and people pack the place. I haven't been there but I think my parents have. I'll have to ask. You won't get a seat over the regular lunch hour...so if you can hit that place around 1-ish that might be better ????

If a person doesn't want the full 300 mile ride that day along the IA River Road route, they could cut over at Marquette/Prairie du Chien. There's a park, Effigy Mounds, with some touristy things and Iowa's Pike's Peak with a great place to take a photo (I think it's been mentioned at least twice, maybe by me both times).

If you need a Cabela's fix, there's a store in PdC as well... MAP

Oh Yeah :clapping: Route four is some nice area and the House isn't too bad either.. I gotta make this thing.

:jester:

Corn was up when I was there.
Ha! That must be the 2nd highest photographed farm in IA behind the Field of Dreams.

As to the length of the routes, yeah, 300 seems a little psycotic to some so bail out where you want and pick it back up where you'd like. I'm in the process of converting the google maps into gpx and S&T formats that twistedcricket said he could post on the CFO website for download. I'm going to also try to put a little write up for each of my routes suggesting where to stop... when and how detailed... that remains to be seen.

Now that is funny... yeah, people think I'm nutz when I tell them to ride Great River Road Iowa over Wisconsin 35 across the river.

I'll try to get these routes and POIs wrapped up tonight (it's raining here). I'll throw everything into a single GPX file and put them up on the CFORally.org website. I'll post a link in a separate thread.

If you have other suggestions for POIs let me know soon!

I have a coulple of them in S&T and gpx already. I'll send you an email with what I have. I'm leaving for the start of the IBR (not riding the rally) tomorrow afternoon and was going to finish them up when I got back in early September... but I won't complain if you want to finish them off.

Hanson's Hold up https://www.hansensholdup.com/info.html
Great views, great roads, great food and MC friendly. A good place for Saturday lunch :yahoo:
Good people! Definitely don't mind giving my money to them.
Address found and saved. I'll get them added tonight.
FWIW, I did have Hansens highlighted as a stop in the Mindoro, Arcadia, Durand & Wabasha ride, but having a separate list with all the POI's would be a great asset so people could plan their own routes. Maybe that was the plan all along & I missed that somewhere along the line. :sleepysmiley03:

Thanks for all the help, greatly appreciated twistedcricket & DaJuice.

I have the routes;

Iowa River Road

Root River

Mindoro (etc)

House On the Rock

Sconnie Highlights (this one has the route, but the POIs might be a little off)

Follow the River

EasternLoop (a little longer ride than Sconnie Highlights)

All done and saved as GPX files. Right now I'm looking for the password so that I can put them up on the CFO website...I'll find it soon.

The POIs will be in a separate file (most likely). Most area along any of the routes listed above. I don't want to go back through each route and add all of the POIs. Why? Not entirely because I'm lazy :p Not everyone will want to stop at the POIs (myself and pillion included). Some are just there to ride, some are there to be a tourist and some are there to ride/eat.

I'll put all of the files into a ZIP archive for simply one-file download.
