Hey guys...I really need some advice. While doing a basic final service to the '05 feejer (oil change), I decided it was time to change the plugs. 19k miles...yes overdue.

I double checked the gap on each one, then replaced them. It fired up fine afterwards and I let it run for a bit. I took her off the center stand yesterday and moved her around the garage and it still was fine.

It was a warm morning today here in MN, so I decided I would ride to work. I fired her up and she was a chokin' and spittin' and not running on all 4. I was already late, so I hopped in the cage and left the feejer for tonight.

Are these plug wires more tricky than I though to push back on...or maybe another simple secret I missed?

Thanks in advance,

Josh in MN

Wouldn't idle, or wouldn't rev? Could be just a coincidental minor flooding, a start and rev until it clears could be all it needs.

I would, as you suggested, check the plug wires. When I pull or put back spark plug wires I always rub a little dielectric (silicone) grease inside the sparkplug boot. It helps in installation (helps them slide, knowing that the plug connector is reaching/bottoming to the spark plug) and helps when removing also.

I'll concur with the more likely candidate being the wires. If it was cold and now warmer it might have been the small difference between a circuit and now too much resistance.

One other comment you made caught my eye. You said you checked the gap on the plugs? I hope if they were Iridiums that you didn't try and regap them. They're VERY delicate plugs and don't lend themselves to that operation.

I've recently had a problem with my '04 wanting to repeatedly pop a plug wire off -- why now after 30k miles? Only on cyl #2. The plug wire will be looked at some time after the snow flies. My first guess is lack of slack in the wire.

ZZkenoman's first drama with the Forum came right after he gapped his iridium plugs IIRC  Never gap iridiums and if you *must* check the gap do it with utmost care (and at your own risk).

Why now? at 30k miles when was the last plug change done?

Maybe you have a leak around the plug threads and it's pumping pressure out of the plug hole and pushing the wire off?

Nope, he started and shut it off cold. Just loaded up, I'm sure, after talking with him, it'll light right off tonight.

When I last changed my plugs, I pulled on the wire instead of the rubber boot and oops, the wire came out. I just stuck it back in and carried on but the point is the wire itself can easily come loose so you should check that each wire is nice and snug in its rubber boot.

Radman was right! Thanks buddy...just half-open throttle, started it up, and a couple little burps and she is back to life. Certainly loaded up with gas from quick start, stop, off when cold...or maybe one of my buddies was messing with it sat night after bar close...or one of the ladies that followed up home. I wish I could remember!

Thanks Rad...you're a huge help.
