All of a sudden I have swapped my '06 for a '10.

It came about because it looks like I'll be going on the Continent (that's Europe) for 2 or 3 thousand miles early next year.

Having said I'd go to a friend who's organising it, my dearly beloved said 'I suppose you'll want a new bike'. Quick as a flash, 'Yes, dear'.

Went to my dealer on the Saturday, asked what it would cost be to exchange,he said 'Wait 'til Monday, I think Yamaha are doing a deal'.

Comes Monday, he rings me with a good offer. I hum and ha a bit, he says he'll see if Yamaha will allow a bit more. After half an hour, I get another call with an even better deal, so I bite his hand off.

So I go off to Scotland for a week; while I'm away the bike comes to the dealer, he rings me, I arrange insurance while in the most northern tip of the Scottish mainland (insurance needed to get the bike taxed) (aren't mobile phones useful sometimes?). I picked it up this Friday, less than two weeks from my wonderful wife's question.

So, this . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . to this

Yes, it's still got the electric gear-change

It looks like Yamaha won't be offering it in the UK next year which explains why I got such a good deal.

Colour: Smokey Grey.

PS. Admins: It's a 2010 with an electric gear-change, I can't update my profile correctly. Can we have a "2010 ABS AS (World)" as a possibility, please?

I do believe that they are not available here in the US for 2010.

That is a great color also.

Congrats on the purchase! Do let us know how you like the upgrade as I have a *friend* who is considering the same thing...with a clutch lever of course. ;)

Ohhhh Man, MC! You must have the best wife EVER!!! :clapping: I am Sooo Happy for you. :drinks: If I had a Wife like that, I'd probably still be married right now.

Instead, I got an FJR and a Slew of Wonderful Ladies who want to Ride on my FJR all the time! Enjoy your New '10AE My Friend, Life is GOOD!

To be honest, I'm not over-keen on the colour, it is the best of the three on offer. But I don't look at the paint-work while I'm riding

The bike's tha same as before, but it feels a bit taughter. Initially it felt a bit slower, but that is due to the better throttle cam profile; open the throttle and that torque comes pouring through

. I already prefer the initial throttle response over my '06. Even though I did modify its profile.(Click on image for larger view)

Well, I have to agree with you on the first line, she is

, but she won't get on with me. So I'm a little envious of your SoWLs

. But I won't swap her for any of them.
Congrats...nice ride indeed
Couldn't agree with you more. I liked my first, this one felt "right" as soon as I rode out of the dealer. (Apart from the brakes that took a few uses to bite properly

What was the build date on your bike? Is it really a 2010? Or a 2009 left over sold as a 2010? Not that is matters, just that the AE is not being sold as a 2010 in the US or Canada.

Can't answer your question.

I can find no date as such, and the VIN (JYARP13E000001064) doesn't decode on any on-line VIN decoder I can find. In particular, the check- and year-digits are illegal. But non-US VINs don't have to conform precisely to the VIN specification.

The Metzelers have what I take to be date codes of 4608 (front) and 3808 (rear), which I believe mean week 46 of 2008 and week 38 of 2008 respectively. These tend to imply a manufacture date of 2009 rather than 2010.

However, the bike is either recently made or it's been stored well; there is no sign of corrosion anywhere that I can see, all controls operate smoothly, and it seems to run well (I've not wound it right up yet, it's only done 145 miles as I write this and I'm not doing a "Motoman break-in").

It comes with its full 2-year unlimited mileage manufacturer's warranty (Yamaha's standard warranty in the UK). Unfortunately I'll only be doing about 6000 (s)miles a year.

Yes sir. As I said, this is not (nor should be) particularly important to you. If they say it is a 2010, it's a 2010. I was just curious if they really continued production for another year and didn't export them to North America, or if they were clearing old stock. Either way, you got yersef a NEW bike!! Good on ya.

Good for you on your NEW new FJR! Now, go soak the clutch plates. [snerk]
Thanks. Do I really have to do a clutch soak  ? There's no sign of grabbing nor of poor gear changing. I think I'll pass at least for the time being.

Oh, please don't snerk. A full-blown guffaw would be much more like you. Go on, treat yourself. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: . There, that's much better, isn't it?

Anyway, you can't upset me at the moment, I'm in FJR heaven. :hyper:

'Cept I've got a stinking cold. Hate having a runny nose inside my helmet, particularly when it's pouring with rain. I think Summer is over.

They don't show the build date on the VIN sticker?
Nope. (Click on image for larger view)

Oh my gosh - The VIN sticker DOES actually show the build date, and it's really a 2002!!!!! :dribble: Your bike's the one that was stored in the backroom FOREVER because they couldn't sell the dang thing...

Congrats on a great new bike.

Just in case anyone's interested, I think my bike actually is a 2010.

I fitted a fenda extenda today. When I removed the front mudguard, its underside showed this

(Click on images for larger view

Blowing up the marking gives us this:

All the stamped characters and dots are raised in the mudguard, so are punched into the mould.

So, I see punch marks for:

2005 November and December

2006 January, February, May, October, November

2007 February, March, April, July, September, November

2008 January, February, March, June, August, September, December

2009 January

2010 January (even though the year number isn't stamped in)

So, I believe it's a genuine 2010 FJR1300AS. Even if it was January.

PS. Sorry about the quality of the photograph, I found it very difficult to get light to show up markings in a dull black surface :assassin: but if you look at the larger view it is quite visible.
