Does anyone know of a site that allows you to check the approximate costs of insurance for a specific model BEFORE you buy it? Would be helpful since I'm considering a Ducati.

I doubt there is one since rates very so much from person to person. When I'm considering a bike I just do an online quote prior to pulling the trigger.

Different insurance companies will give you wild and varying quotes for the same bike. That's why you have to shop around and call them directly.

That being said, I believe Progressive's website will you give you a 'quote' for a potential purchase.

Don't have a chart.

I can tell ya that I have Dairyland and the Ducati 848 is less than half the cost of the FJR for the same coverage.

??? go figure ???

I think this just confirms my opinion that Ins. Companies know very little about the Bikes or Bikers they insure.

From past experience I can assure that I am more aggressive, and more likely to "get in trouble" on a Duc than an FJR in nearly every scenario.

The Lady adjuster for my totaled FJR was pathetic. Played to my favor. Never ask about saddlebags or other accessories that I pulled off Bike. Had no clue what she was looking at.

Totaled FJR? Ouch. Was there a story on here that I missed?

And if you don't mind, why the switch to a Ducatti? Those bikes are completely different imho.

The facts of the wreck were well documented on the "Other" Forum.

I can give you an abbreviated version. 04 that I'd own 6+ years hit gravel in a curve on that "Leaf-peepers" Tour in W Va. back in Oct.

Overall one of the top 3 Bikes I've owned so IF I live long enough..................................AND I get rid of this fricken KLR taking up room in my garage, I will likely own another FJR.

Rode the ST3 today. Lots to like..............but I didn't "HAVE-TO-HAVE-IT"! Did a fast 20 miles and was quite relieved to get back on my FZ. Ducs are an acquired taste. Owned an ST2 for about a year so I'm aware the eccentricities.

Hope this provides incite.

I know the insurance companies give bikes a rating, which gives them a relative differential for each bike. Old man bikes like the fjr don't rate as highly as litre bikes, etc. An agent might share with you.

Surprisingly my FZ1 got a premium withing $2-3 of the FJR. Farm Bureau seems to rate by cost of Bike. And the ONLY way they will make a quote, is if I provide a serial #. Aggravating! I'm likely gonna pay whatever the cost BUT I'd like to know before I buy just in case there is some screwy deviation in their calculations. Ins. on all the current Bikes is very reasonable. I don't want to add something to the Garage that's gonna cost more than the pleasure derived.
